The Drink: 7-Eleven Brazilian Bold
Type: Convenience Store Coffee
Overall Rating: 2.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Cups
7-Eleven says their new Brazilian Bold coffee has a bolder, richer taste, usually only found in coffee houses. They say it has a reasonable price and perfect for younger coffee drinkers who like stronger, darker brews. It sounded good, but after trying the lackluster 7-Eleven iced coffees last summer, I wasn’t exactly in a rush to try another coffee from them, but I did give them a second chance.
The aroma perked my interest. It did smell like something that I could’ve bought at a coffee house. It had a dark-nutty aroma, with honey and spices mixed in. It started out much better than I was expecting.
However, the taste left me disappointed, it was more along the lines of what I was fearing. It did have a mouth watering nutty taste with a sweet-spicy flavor, but it went downhill from there.
Instead of tasting like a dark roast, it had a slightly burnt taste to it. I’m not sure if that it was because it had been sitting in the store too long or if that’s just the way they roast their coffee beans.
There was also a slight metallic taste, that neautralized the initial taste that I had on my tongue.
The after taste was nutty and above average, but not enough to repair the damage that was already done.
The body felt on the weak side, like I was drinking one percent milk when I wanted a whole milk feel.
The suggested retail price is 99 cents to $1.79, but that really doesn’t seem any cheaper than regular coffees at places like Starbucks or regular coffee shops.
The Brazilian Bold earned an slightly below average rating of 2.5 out of five on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. It was better than I expected and if I was on the road, I could see myself getting it again. However, my first choice would still be an equally priced coffee drink at a place that focuses on coffee.
If you want to try it for free, 7-Eleven currently has an online dating game that you can play and win a coupon for a free cup. Play it at http://www.the711club.com/
Have you tried it? What do you think?

this among other reasons is why I love your blog. Better you than me trying that 7-11 coffee! btw, sometimes I will be in the car with a friend or sister and they will want to try some drink that you’ve reviewed and I tell them “Mike at Daily shot of coffee says no, and I believe him.”

Rose – I’m glad I can help out with that. I’d rather it be my taste buds, than someone else. Itwwas drinkable, but I’ve definitely had better coffee.

*takes out “snob” glasses, puts them on, tips head down to look over the edge at Mike*
I never like any coffee at minit markets.
LOL!
I’ve been ruminating on your comments about “burnt taste.” You are definitely not a dark roast kinda guy lol. The darker you roast something, the more “burnt” it’s gonna taste, I would think? Maybe it’s just me, but I kind of like the burnt taste…like, my mom loves burnt cookies and burnt potato chips. The nutty “deep” flavor is tied into the “burnt” flavor with me. I don’t know, it’s hard to describe. I obviously don’t like coffee that’s been brewed and burned on the coffee warmer – THAT tastes blatantly burnt to me. But dark/french/espresso roasts generally speaking don’t taste horrible in a “burnt” way to me – I love it
Then again, I haven’t experienced really any “light” roasts, so it’s hard for me to compare.
*adds “light roast coffee” to next evil shopping trip with a friend who can be suckered into it….(lol!!)*
I’m fully shifting any blame to you for making me spend money…I need to go find a good light roast lol.

Devon – Mini Markets and coffee, don’t usually go together, but I’m holding out hope that I might find some one day in the future. I’ll admit that I’m more of a medium roast kind of guy, but I’ve had some really good dark roasts. They just seem to be few and far between.

So what would you recommend for a n00b to light roasts such as myself?

I may have to get back to you on that. I don’t think I can recommend any really good light roasts that aren’t a flavored coffee.
I don’t know about the coffee… but that 711 club site is freaking awesome.
