A Dark Roast Coffee With Flavor? Nostromo From Deep Cello Coffee

The Drink: Nostromo from Deep Cello Coffee
Type: Italian Roast Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.75 Out Of 5 Coffee Beans

The last coffee that I reviewed from Deep Cello, Black Tie was a home run and earned a top notch score of four out of five on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. However, I was a little worried about the other bag of coffee they sent me to review. They sent me their Nostromo, it’s an Italian roast, which takes the roast to a darker place, while preserving the flavors…at least that’s what they say.

Deep Cello says Nostromo is a deep, rich coffee designed for those who like their roasts dark. They start with their dark roast base, add some sweet beans from Ethiopia, and say this roast is sure to satisfy those who like a deeper, darker, coffee experience. They say it has the bitter, charcoal edge favored by dark coffee drinkers without the palette-numbing ash flavor of most Italian and French roasts. The roast includes Brazil Daterra Estate, Sumatra Mandheling, Mexico Terruño, and Ethiopian.

As the steam flowed from my cup, I knew Nostromo was not the typical darker roast kind of coffee. The aroma was not what I was expecting. It smelled distinctively like a dark roast, but there was also fruity flavor. I even picked up on hints of limes, apples and cotton candy. So far, so very good.

However, the aroma is just part of the experience. I was hoping that the taste wouldn’t let me down. It started with a deep, dark roast flavor, with a charcoal tint to it. However, the flavor didn’t stop there. My tongue found hints of peach, grapefruit, caramel and a little bit of orange.

It was also a relatively smooth cup of coffee for being an Italian Roast.

You can find a pound of Nostromo on the Deep Cello website for $15.25. It’s not exactly an economy price, but if you like dark roast coffee, it’s well worth trying at least once. Although, I don’t think you’ll stop at just one bag.

Overall, Nostromo from Deep Cello earned a solid 3.75 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. It was easily one of the most flavorful dark roast coffees that I’ve ever had and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone that likes darker coffees (or even a lighter roast fiend like me).
