On an early morning in spring, I had some kan k?h? or Canned Coffee, which is ubiquitous in Japan and is something I am relatively fond of. I have been drinking canned coffee for years. I like canned coffee in the spring/summer while traveling and having geeky adventures. I classify if differently than I would standard coffee which I brew myself. It is great to have a few cans on long bike rides along with water and due to the fact it’s easier to store. I tend to brew my own coffee and use a thermos but canned coffee is great in a pinch, furthermore, for me, it is a nice pick-me-up.
The Canned Coffee I Drank this weekend was Produced by DyDo Drinco, Inc. (DyDo Drinco Kabushiki Kaisha), in Osaka , Japan. Dydo ‘Demitasse Coffee’ is a “milk coffee,” which is quite sweet. This is an enjoyable soft drink, coffee already brewed and all set to drink. Due to its small size. The ‘Demitasse Coffee’, comes in a 5.07 oz can. After about 4 miles on my by bike in South Mountain reservation, here in New Jersey, it’s actually quite refreshing and a nice ultra quick pick me up.
Another Dydo canned coffee I had a few weeks ago was ‘Black Coffee’. This Barrel-shaped can is just exactly what the label says, a very decently (but cheaply )brewed black coffee. It has a decent flavor. I like it better than anything Starbucks have ever put in a can.
I have no clue how the coffee is sourced, nor do I ever really think about it, when drinking canned coffee. Dydo Coffee is not like anything I have drank, to tell the truth. It’s unique in its flavor and Low in acidity. I could drink it directly from the can, but for the purpose of taking pictures and my own geekyness. I bring a small cups in my Packs when I ride, it is nice to take a moment and just take pleasure in coffee.
How did I find out about Canned Coffee? I am American Otaku, I like to Read Manga or Japanese Comics and watch Anime Cartoons made in Japan. Leading me to get introduced to anime Conventions where I had my first canned coffee. Where do I find my canned coffee? Well generally I take trips Japanese Markets in my area. They are on sites on the around the internet also.
Besides Dydo , all large Japanese beer, soda, and drink companies and most coffee companies either currently, or have at some point, offered canned coffee. There is a good entry on Canned Coffee on Wikipedia if you would like more information.
