A Second Look At The AgroEco Nicaragua

The Drink: AgroEco Nicaragua
Type: Co-op Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.75 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs

This bag of coffee might look like a familiar face. Last month, I wrote a review of AgroEco’s Nicaragua coffee. They’re a great organization, doing great work for the coffee farmers, however the coffee wasn’t as great.

The coffee that they sent me was pre-ground and like any coffee that’s pre-ground it had started to lose its flavor and go stale. It wasn’t, bad but it wasn’t great either. That time it earned a slightly above average rating of 3.25 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale.

Not too long after it was published, they sent me another bag of coffee to review, this time it was the whole bean version. I know that I’m a coffee blogger and they probably want to get the best review, but I think it’s a sign that they truly care about the people drinking their coffee and what they think about it.

The first thing that I noticed about this version of the AgroEco Nicaragua is the beans. They didn’t exactly look like a light roast, but they definitely weren’t as dark as the first whole bean bag of coffee they sent me.

The second thing I noticed was how delicious it smelled in my French Press. I picked up on an overall nuttiness filled with hints of spices. There was allspice and cinnamon. In the background there was a little bit of sweetness and a hint of wine aroma. Without even tasting the coffee, I knew there was going to be more flavor in the whole bean version than the pre-ground.

When I did taste it, I found an eye opening strong coffee flavor up front. There was more of the spices (allspice and cinnamon again). In the background there was a hint of smokiness that rounded out the flavor.

You can find a pound of AgroEco Nicaragua in both whole bean and ground for $14.95 and learn more about their great work on their website.

Overall, this version earned a respectable 3.75 and I’m glad they sent me this version to try. I wouldn’t exactly call it a light roast, but it is the type of coffee that I think a wide variety of coffee drinkers would enjoy and it’s a way better than the pre-ground version.

Fine Print.
