Battle Of The Nuts…Coffee That Is…
I love the taste of peanuts and other nuts, but of course there’s the feeling of my tongue swelling and throat closing that goes along with it for me. Yup, I’m allergic to nuts, however I can still satisfy the craving with flavored coffees. Yeah, the man made flavors aren’t a perfect solution, but because the flavors are man made, I can enjoy them.
This week I’m sampling two nut flavored K-Cups, one from Green Mountain Coffee and another from Gloria Jean’s in a head to head battle.
The Drink: Southern Pecan from Green Mountain Coffee
Type: Flavored K-Cup
Overall Rating: 3 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
First up in this week’s K-Cup battle was Southern Pecan from Green Mountain Coffee.
The buttery flavor of luscious nutty pecans. Just like Southern hospitality.
-1QuickCup description
As the Southern Pecan brewed, it filled my kitchen with a sweet-chocolate aroma. It was one of those kinds of flavored coffees, but it wasn’t over the top. I picked up on light nutty scent.
There wasn’t much nutty flavor in the aroma department, but the taste was predominantly nut flavored. That was surrounded by a sweet, creamy flavor and a dark, dark chocolate with a hint of bitterness in the after taste. It was mostly a smooth sip and the flavors blended well together.
A 24 pack of Southern Pecan is $12.95 at 1QuickCup.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad K-cup, but it wasn’t great either. It earned an average three rating on the K-Cup scale.
The Drink: Swiss Almond Chocolate from Gloria Jean’s
Type: Flavored K-Cup
Overall Rating: 2.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
The second contender in this week’s confrontation was Swiss Almond Chocolate from Gloria Jean’s.
The 1QuickCup description is short for this one: “Nutty Swiss mocha taste.” My review will probably be a little bit longer.
My nose detected a nutty flavor that mixed with chocolate. It was the kind of chocolate that reminded me of hot chocolate and I may have even picked up on a bit of marshmallows.
The taste had a nutty flavor and then some more nutty flavor. There might have been a drop or two of dark chocolate and a little more in the after taste.
The bad news is that Swiss Almond Chocolate is discontinued. Recommend replacements are Green Mountain’s Mocha Nut Fudge and Gloria Jean’s Mudslide.
Swiss Almond Chocolate earned a slightly below average score of 2.5 on the K-Cup scale. It was okay, but not much going on in the taste department.

flavored Kcups…. if they screw with the formulas and
slip REAL nut flavored stuff in them you’re toast Mike.
where do we send the floral arrangements?
I like to live dangerously, what can I say!
I think when companies put in natural flavoring, they usually announce it big time, so I’m pretty safe right now.
I like the new flavours! I recently switched back to drinking coffee and have to say love what’s happened in the coffee industry!
Welcome back to the wonderful world of coffee! We’re glad to have you back.
