Best Coffee Name Ever? Mammoth’s Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow Blend From Newhall Coffee Review

The Drink: Mammoth’s Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow Blend from Newhall Coffee
Type: Sumatra Blend Ground
Overall Rating: 3.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs

I’ve sampled some coffees with some great names: Meth Coffee and Rocketfuel Coffee to name just a couple, but my new favorite is Mammoth’s Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow Blend from Newhall Coffee or as I like to run around the kitchen singing Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow for short. Just saying the name is fun. However, the question of course is drinking the coffee fun too?

Inspired by Southern California’s Mammoth Mountain winter culture, this is a double picked Grade 1 Sumatra Mandheling bean roasted using a “long roast’ method to bring out the full characteristics of what the bean was meant for.

This Sumatra is grown inland from the southern coast in the Aceh Region, known for its earthy and spicy notes. These have low acidity.

Newhall Coffee description

Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow started off with a smokey aroma, followed up by a wave of sweetness mixed with spiciness. The intriguing aroma woke up my nose on an all to early Saturday morning when I should’ve still been asleep.

The actual taste was just as intriguing. It had a strong dark roast flavor that covered my tongue. It was almost too strong at first for the medium roast drinker in me. However, it didn’t taste burnt and as it cooled down, more flavors came out. It had an earthy flavor, with spicy mix and a dry feel. I also picked up hints of grapes buried within it all.

The after taste had a smooth, dry feel that stayed on my tongue for what felt like forever.

Brewed in a drip coffee maker, it felt like it had a heavy body.

A 12 ounce bag of Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow is a reasonable $10 on the Newhall Coffee website. They also threw in a discount code for 10% off any purchase at NewhallCoffee.com. That discount code is QZ742 and it will expire August 1, 2010.

Overall, it earned an above average rating of 3.5 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. Even the medium roast drinker in me, thinks that it’s a good, solid dark roast that’s good for every day drinking. I wouldn’t have complained if there was a little bit more flavor to live up to the Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow name, but overall I liked the coffee.

Do you know of any coffees that have a better name than Bow-Chicka-Pow-Pow?

Fine Print.
