Best French Presses – 2009 Holiday Guide
One of the must haves on any coffee Christmas list is a French Press. I bought one this year and it really has taken my coffee drinking to the next level. Besides the quality of the beans, nothing really brings out the flavors and the characteristics like a French Press. I wish I had bought one sooner.
If you have someone on your Christmas list that is a coffee drinker and they don’t have a French Press, it’s a safe bet. I have a feeling they’ll be thanking you for it.
Do you have a french press that you would recommend? Or do you have a french press on your Christmas list this year?

Ok, so it’s not technically a French Press, but it does make great coffee anyway.
- Unique coffee/espresso maker uses total immersion and gentle pressure to produce coffee with extraordinarily rich flavor
- Makes American style coffee or an espresso-style shot perfect for use in lattes or cappuccinos
- Because of the lower temperature and short brew time, the acid level of the brew is much lower than conventional brewers
- Micro-filtered coffee so pure and particle-free that it can be stored for days as a concentrate
- Includes a years’ worth of micro-filters; easy cleaning with just a 10-second rinse of the plunger

so totally awesome
Yeah, if I ever left the house (I work from home), I’d love to have one. What am I talking about, I want one anyways!
I will gladly accept any of these as gifts.
Hint hint. lol
So noted!
I use the Bodum Young Press. It looks great and the exterior sleeve keeps the coffee nice and hot!
I looked up that model, I’ve seen it around a lot. I like the exterior sleeve feature a lot.
I’m so happy to be a “French press” user. It sounds like something you do in weight lifting, I’m happy to say my “French press” is light and easy to use a small Bodum I’ve had for many years.. This time of year it will be used a lot more for hot espresso now that there is more of a chill in the air. Not so frequent in Florida. Most of the time I’m making double strength coffee to use as the base for some form of an iced espresso.
Happy holidays as we toast “Daily shot of Coffee!
It does kind of sound like weight lifting or the French media. I’ll have to try using it the next time I make iced coffee, with this crazy Florida weather it shouldn’t be long.
Thanks for the review on the French presses. I love my little Bodum Kenya French Press. I used to use the Bodum Traveler you have listed, but somehow it cracked. The thing I didn’t like about it was that no matter which way I adjusted the grind, there were always a few grounds that came through the sides of the plunger. I still loved the portable nature of the press, but it was a bit annoying having to spit out a few grounds.
I have noticed that some french presses allow more grinds through. I wonder if it was just that specific one or the model in general.
That’s very informative; I’ll keep coming back for more! Your blog is a real coffee addicted journal man! I like that!

Thanks! Glad you like it! I love looking at the cars on your site.
Thank you too.
By the way, I never thought I would become a coffee drinker. For me coffee became a necessity when the 24 hours day proved not to be long enough for all I had to do in a day’s time.
Therefore I was amazed to discover such a nice blog dedicated to coffee, and more than that a community of people sharing the marvels of various flavors and elevated coffee enjoyment.
I just wanted to let you know that my appreciation goes beyond polite words and that it is true and sincere. I have really enjoyed discovering your blog.

My coffee drinking started similarly. I was in college and needed more hours in the day too study. When I got out into the real world, that necessity for coffee became even more strong.
I really do appreciate you stopping by and the kind words.
I have always liked coffee, but just never drank it when I was young. Thinking back to when I first started drinking coffee, I was in high school and I worked in a library and one of my daily tasks was to…. you guessed it, make the coffee. So I always helped myself to a cup or two…
My parents use to drink coffee but that did not influnce me in the past. While in school, I had once a difficult homework I could not finish by nightfall. My mom, who thought school performance should be my number one priority, suggested a cup of coffee, but she feared it could have side effects on me as a child.
It did not. However, it kept me awake all night.
Later on, during college, my personal coffee consuming experience began. My body adapted so far to all my excesses and it seems it found resources to keep me going. I used to skip night sleep and coffee was the one to keep me awake.
The longest time I had no sleep was about 72 hours or more, as far as I remember 3 days and three nights going straight on. The combination between motivation and strong instant coffee was responsible for this performance.
Once I did it once, I thought I could do it whenever I want. Once I was so tired that in my third sleepless night I had a short blackout kind of thing. I felt asleep for an hour or so, I woke up suddenly, I felt my mind was active, I could think, I could neither speak or move.
I had to focus hard to regain control over myself that night. This is why I recommend everybody not to ever make this kind of excess on coffee and lack of sleep. You can never know how your body will react.
Today I can replace water with coffee for long periods of time without any side effects. I guess I have developed a resistance to large doses of repeated strong coffee shots.
I’ve had some really long periods of staying awake, sometimes to even the point where coffee couldn’t help me anymore. However, nothing compared to 72 hours. That’s a really long time. But then again, I can drink a pot of coffee then fall right to sleep sometimes.
