The Best Of Coffee 2012 voting is over. The votes have been counted and luckily, we had no hanging chads.
Before we announce the winners, let me tell you about how the process worked. Two weeks ago, I started taking nominations for the categories – favorite coffee roaster, favorite coffee ground in the grocery store, etc. I took the most popular nominations and put them on to the official ballot. Last week, you voted for your favorites and decided which were the Best Of Coffee 2012.
And now it’s time to announce the winners!
Favorite Coffee Roaster: Cush Coffee
David beat Goliath. Independent coffee roaster, Cush Coffee took down the giants like Inteligentsia and Peet’s to take the title of Best Of Coffee 2012 in the favorite coffee roaster category.
Cush Coffee was founded by a farmer with a mission to bring coffee drinkers the freshest, cleanest tasting coffee. They often work directly with farmers and hope to spread the message of the slow coffee movement by educating consumers, all the while putting the art in coffee.
Favorite Coffee Found In A Grocery Store: Never Buy At The Grocery Store
The popularity of Peet’s and Starbucks was not enough to beat the contingency of voters that refuse to buy coffee at the grocery store. I can’t say I blame them, you never know how long those beans were sitting on the dusty shelf at the store. It’s almost always better to buy beans from a local, independent roaster. Don’t know of one in your area?
Favorite Coffee Shop Chain: TIE Starbucks and Don’t Visit Chains
The giant coffee corporation, Starbucks’ popularity managed to pull out a tie with the people who don’t visit chains in this category.
I don’t think I really need to give you any background on Starbucks. I’m pretty sure you know enough about them already. If you’re a daily Starbucks visitor, let me make the humble suggestion of trying out the local owned coffee shops in your area from time to time. You never know what you might find and how it might make a huge difference in your coffee experience.
Favorite Way To Brew: Drip Machine
This was a huge surprise! With the strong voting for not buying coffee at the grocery store and not visiting coffee chains, I thought for sure a coffee enthusiast brewing method like the French Press or AeroPress would take the victory. Nope, it was the popular coffee maker that sits on just about every kitchen counter in America that won in this category.
Favorite Coffee Drink: Black Coffee
Can’t say I disagree with this one. I love my coffee black. I suggest to everyone I know to try their coffee black and enjoy the flavors of the bean without being hidden by cream and sugar. Try it!
I can’t wait for the Best Of Coffee 2012. Huge thanks to everyone that participated from suggesting their favorites during the nomination process to voting to determine the Best Of. I appreciate your time and making this such a successful event!
And now for the moment that many of you were waiting for. The announcement of the coffee giveaway winner. The winner was…
Mike Seifert!
Keep an eye on your email inbox Mike, I’ll be emailing you shortly.
Thanks to everyone that entered, I wish I could’ve given a bag of coffee to each of you!

I have to say that I am not surprised. I don’t like few of these, but I am still glad that at least some of my favs won in their categories.
Thanks for hosting this amazing contest. Great work!
It was interesting to see which companies/roasters were named. There seems to be two sides of coffee here.
