Black & Tan Blend From Armeno Coffee Roasters Review

The Drink: Black & Tan Blend From Armeno Coffee Roasters
Type: Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.25 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs

Normally when I hear black and tan, I think of a Guinness poured over a Bass Ale. However, Armeno Coffee Roasters have their own version. Their Black & Tan is Indonesia coffee beans that have been roasted to a dark french roast or a medium-dark full city roast. It’s also the second coffee that I’ve sampled from Armeno Coffee Roasters. The first was the Maui Red Cataui that I loved, so I had high expectations for the Black & Tan.

The dark french roast dominated the aroma. Mixed in were crisp hints of chocolate, an earthy aroma and sweet-sugary fruit flavor that almost reminded me of a fruit snack.

I didn’t like the first sip. It tasted bitter and overwhelming over roasted. However, after letting it cool down for a few minutes, it turned into a delicious tasting coffee.

The dark roast did control the taste, like it dominated the smell. There were slight hints of a burnt taste at the back end of the sip, but over all it was an excellent dark-nutty taste. I was able to pick up hints of dark, dark chocolate, a sweetness like a piece of hard candy and a little bit of spiciness around the edges.

The after taste had a relaxing, smoky feeling.

It had a full body and an almost syrup feel to it.

The Black & Tan is a solid blend. It might be a little bit too dark roasted for my tastes since I’m more of a medium-dark roast guy, but I know a few of my friends that would love this coffee. I’d give it an above average rating of 3.25.

Black & Tan runs for $10.25 a pound and would make a perfect every day coffee for someone that likes darker roasts.
