Do you use a hand grinder? I grind for an espresso pot. Will try a really really coarse grind with my Zazzenhus and see how gritty the coffee is with my IKEA press.

i think the reason i do not use a press is the sediment. i have owned 2 different sizes of press, and i can't get over the sediment making my coffee thick. i use the chunkiest setting on my grinder.

Yes it should be tablespoons. Sorry about the type.

All of the french presses that I've tried allow some of the sentiment through.

Two questions:
1. Do you mean 'scoops' instead of 'cups' of coffee in your post on amounts of ground coffee per cup of water? Can you give that in tablespoons?
2. I have an inexpensive IKEA french press (great for loose tea). BUT the coffee I make in it isn't very clear, has bits of grounds in it. Doesn't the Bodum do the same?

I started with two cups of ground coffee for each cup of water, then worked my way down there to get the flavor that I like. For me it's one to one and a half cups per cup of water. And I do vary it depending on what kind of coffee it is. I've made some bad coffee with it, but overall the results have been great, I love being able to control the factors that make the coffee.

Hi great review, I totally agree with everything you wrote. Mine came via ups with no bubble wrap, and i was afraid it would be broken too. luckily not. I too made way too strong coffee the first time, I'm still experimenting. How much coffee vs water do you use for a full "8 cup" press pot? Do you vary the amt of coffee based on what type you are brewing? Sorry for all the questions I'm such a newbie at this
thanks
