The Drink: Bonsai Blend From Velton’s Coffee
Type: Whole Bean Blend For Espresso
Overall Rating: 3.75 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs

Today, is one of those days when I wish I had a quality espresso machine. Okay, every day is a day when I wish that I had a high end espresso machine on my kitchen counter. But today especially because I’m tasting the Bonsai Blend from Velton’s Coffee, a blend designed for espresso.

A medium roasted blend designed for espresso. It produces a thick, smooth shot with a lingering sweetness; notes of milk chocolate, caramel, hazelnut, and citrus fruit pervade.
- Velton’s Coffee website description

Of course, I wasn’t going to let this coffee go to waste just because I didn’t have an espresso machine. I ground it up and put in the next best thing, a french press. A few minutes later, I was taking my first sniff of this coffee.

Bonsai Blend had an aroma that was eye opening. It was a blend of chocolate, nuttiness and citrus that mixed together perfect and made me smile.

Each sip was loaded with flavor. It had a smooth chocolate taste, mixed with a hazelnut flavor. There was some citrus flavor around the edges and in the after taste it mixed with a fruity flavor.

In the french press, it had a medium body.

Even though I don’t have an espresso machine, this coffee was obviously something special. It earned a well above average, 3.75 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. I’d recommend it to anyone with our without an espresso machine.

Make sure you check out the reviews of the Guatemala Finca Liquidambar and Costa Rica Finca Genesis, two other coffees from Velton’s Coffee that I enjoyed reviewing

Fine Print.

Good review!
I took the plunge last night and ordered a bag of roasted Hacienda la Esmeralda from PT’s Coffee Roasters. I was hestitant to spend that much money on a bag of coffee but the one time I’ve had the Esmeralda at Intelligentsia it was mindblowing!
Now, I just have to figure out who is going to be worthy of sharing a cup with me. You don’t want to waste it on someone who thinks Folgers is the best coffee there is.

Thanks!

I’m a huge fan of Hacienda la Esmeralda. So far it hasn’t let me down and was worth the price!
