Brazil Yellow Bourbon From Rocketfuel Coffee Review: Is It Worth The Price Tag?

The Drink: Brazil Yellow Bourbon From Rocketfuel Coffee
Type: Single Origin Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.75 Out Of Of 5 Coffee Mugs

I know there’s more to Brazil, but when I think about coffee from that country, I think about mass produced coffee that ends up in a can. However, I couldn’t get any further away from that with Brazil Yellow Bourbon from Rocketfuel Coffee.

Fazenda Cachoeira da Grama, the farm where Yellow Bourbon Brazil is grown, is a family owned farm. There everything is done manually, from planting the coffee trees, to taking care of the farm and harvesting the coffee beans. Lindolpho de Carvalho Dias, the owner developed a program of planting native species to keep a better ecological balance. The waste water is treated to avoid polluting the stream that runs across the farm.

The farm produces various Bourbon coffees, famous for their exceptional quality. This Yellow Bourbon is a full natural process coffee so it will add body and some of the characteristic bite to your espresso blends; however, this can also be a stand-alone coffee.
- Rocketfuel Coffee description

A nutty flavor with chocolate mixed in led off the aroma coming from my mug of Brazil Yellow Bourbon. There were hints of citrus flavors like lemon and a floral scent like I just walked out of a flower shop. I may have picked up a little jasmine. A pretty interesting mix that got my nose’s attention.

The taste was an earthy, almost a grass like flavor. I know that may not sound too attractive, but it tastes a lot better than it sounds. Mixed in was a spicy flavor around the edges and a very chocolate after taste.

For those that were curious, this coffee had a medium body when brewed in the french press.

Like most of the other coffees from Rocketfuel Coffee, Brazil Yellow Bourbon isn’t a bargain. It costs $20 for a half pound bag, but it’s a case of you get what you pay for and I’d say it’s well worth the price tag.

Overall, I liked Rocketfuel Coffee’s Brazil Yellow Bourbon, but I feel like the taste was hesitating, almost like there could have been more going on in the flavor. Still, it earned a well above average 3.75 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. It’s worth checking out, even if it’s just once.

Fine Print.
