CaffeMallows – Yes, Coffee Marshmallows
I may have said this before, but I’ve had a lot of unique, random and sometimes weird coffee influenced treats end up in the Daily Shot Of Coffee kitchen to review. There’s been a a few good ones like the coffee toothpicks and the caffeine mints, but for the most part the random things that appear have been interesting, and not the good kind of interesting.
I wasn’t sure what to think when I found out about the CaffeMallows. They sounded interesting, so I agreed to review them, but I wasn’t sure what kind of interesting they were going to be.
What Are Caffee Mallows?
The simple answer is that they’re designer marshmallows heavily influenced by coffee or espresso.
The more in-depth answer from Caffex (the company that produces the Caffee Mallows) is that they are hand-crafted marshmallows made with all natural ingredients (two thumbs up for being non-GMO). Each mallow is made with a double dose of coffee or double shots of espresso. They give people the delicious taste of coffee and the much needed caffeine anywhere and at anytime.
The CaffeMallows are individually wrapped and designed to be a snack, not just an add-on to a coffee drink. They pack an energy boost of 200-280mg of caffeine per marshmallow. Compare that to just the 90-150mg of caffeine in a cup of coffee.
There’s three flavors of CaffeMallows:
JavaMallows – provide the power-punch of a double espresso, in a mouth-flling burst of deep, satisfying flavor.
With this one, I picked up on a sweet, espresso aroma with drops of chocolate mixed in. It tasted a lot like a shot of espresso, with a lot of sweetness and a little bit of a gingerbread flavor mixed in.
MoccaMallows – create a chocolaty espresso experience with cocoa plus roasted cocoa nibs.
My nose couldn’t get enough of the chocolate, cinnamon and espresso aroma of the MoccaMallow. My tongue loved sugary sweet, chocolate and espresso taste. (Hands down my favorite of the three).
CoffeeMallows – this innocent looking marshmallow packs the punch of a double cup of coffee.
Coffeemallows smelled exactly like a cup of coffee with a huge helping of sugar added to it. It had a sweet, smooth coffee taste that made me want to go back for seconds…unfortunately I only had one of each to review.
The CaffeMallows make great snacks. On one afternoon that was dragging by, I sampled the JavaMallow and it gave me the energy boost that I needed to make it to five o’clock. However, I think they make an even better addition to hot chocolate. They turned my hot chocolate from average to extraordinary and made me wish that they had sent more than just three to review.
The only drawback that I see is the price, they’re $5.99 for a three pack. It breaks down to two dollars a marshmallow, but they definitely aren’t your average marshmallow either and I don’t mind paying a little more for quality, especially if I was spending a chilly, snow filled night in Vermont. (A blogger has to dream, it’s 95+ degrees here in Florida and I’m melting quicker than a marshmallow in hot chocolate).

Coffee marshmallows? For some reason I find these incredibly intriguing…Question, are they made with gelatin?
I’ll find out for you. The ingredients were listed on the package and of course I threw that out.
From the makers of the Cafe Mallows:
Yes, Kosher beef gelatin is one of the ingredients in our marshmallows. It would be very difficult to make marshmallows without gelatin because it is the gelatin that gives body to the confection.
And just got one more update:
I learned that marshmallows can be made with agar-agar, which is a made from seaweed for the vegetarian folks
These sound interesting. I will have to see if one of my local coffee shops has them. Thanks for the great review.
Cheers,
Ardee-ann
Thank you Ardee-ann! Hopefully you can find some to try them out. They’re delicious, so I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing them on counters of more and more coffee shops.
200 => 280 mg caffeine per…
definitely NOT your average getupandgo
Mikr – your article post didn’t actually show one.
they seem to be dark brown or at least that is
what color i see around the edges of the packages.
is that correct?
if so, i’m thinking fudgesicle and yummy.
~
probably an overload of sugar for my tender hot bod…
do you know if you can toast them?
I should’ve had pictures outside of the plastic! Doh, I’m so used to taking pictures of the coffee labels.
They are basically the color of coffee or a mocha.
A lot of sugar, but so delicious. I think you could toast them because they are a lot like regular marshmallows, just don’t burn them!
