With your votes, I could be on my way to Vienna to cover this year’s World Barista Championship. Last week, I outlined my campaign. This week, I wanted to share with you my first campaign video. It’s not an attack ad or propaganda piece, I just wanted to give you a useful video, which also happens to be the theme of the first SendMeToVienna.com challenge (the more challenges I do, the more bonus votes I get).

Hopefully, you find this video helpful. If you do, or even if you just think it’s funny, I would appreciate your vote.

Voting Instructions:

Register to vote: Go SendMeToVienna.com and click “Sign Up To Vote.”

Confirm your registration.

Then find my campaign page (under Mike Crimmins) and vote for me!

One lucky voter will win a $1000 just for voting, I would love for it to be a Daily Shot Of Coffee reader.

It’s not that difficult to make a latte (the art takes some practice though) at home without an espresso machine or a milk forther. Sure, it’s not going to be exactly the same drink as what you can get at the coffee shop, but it’s pretty close, a whole lot cheaper and you don’t even have to leave the house.

What you’ll need:

A <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ADS5TU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dailycoffee-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005ADS5TU"title="French Press" >french press (or coffee maker)

Coffee. Use 2x the amount you normally would for a stronger flavor. It’s not espresso, but I think you’ll like the finished product.

Small Jar With A Lid

Milk

Chocolate syrup as a little bit of a bonus.

How To Make The Latte:

Make the coffee like you normally would, except with the double amount of coffee grounds.

While the coffee is brewing, fill a glass jar halfway full with milk.

Shake it for thirty seconds until the jar is full and the milk looks frother.

Heat the milk in the microwave for thirty seconds.

Then fill the mug a quarter full with coffee. Add the hot milk, holding the foam back with a spoon until the end.

Make it fun by adding some chocolate.

You’re first few lattes probably won’t end up looking like the one in this photo (a professional barista made it), I know that mine don’t even come close, but it still tastes pretty good.

Don’t forget to vote for me!

I’ll admit that I’ve only seen a limited number of musicals. They’re really not my thing. However, Coffee is one musical that I would love to see!

The man behind the project is Robert Galinsky. He is Co-Creator of the Manhattan Monologue Slam, founder and “Principal” of the world’s only school for Reality TV – the New York Reality TV School (check it out for yourself, I didn’t believe it either) and is an acting coach with clients including Academy Award Nominee Charles Mack (“August Rush”) and Hip Hop artist 50 Cent.

Robert spends a lot of time working and writing in coffee houses, drinking a lot of espresso and watching people do business, fall in love with each other much more. That’s where he decided that this is the story that needs to be brought on stage. He’s hoping to bring this story to Broadway this summer, but he does need the support from coffee lovers and music fans. You can learn more about the project and find out how you can help at the project’s Kickstarter page.

No matter which side of the counter you’re on, customer or barista, I have this feeling that you’re going to like Moby’s Coffee Shop. Moby’s Coffee Shop isn’t a coffee shop that you can visit. You can’t even buy coffee online from them. It’s a comedy series from the husband and wife team of Patrick Andrew Higgins and Jennifer Jackson.

Five years ago, the duo met while working at a local Starbucks. Six months after they started dating, the Bucks caught finally caught on and since Patrick was Jennifer’s supervisor, they transfered him to another store. Flash forward to present day and the couple is now married and putting their Starbucks experience to good use, writing a parody about their barista employment.

They now have four episodes on their Youtube channel, each about five minutes long and filled with coffee shop humor that any customer, barista or service industry employee can probably understand and related to.

Check the videos out and let me know what you think. We do have the next internet sensation brewing?

I wanted to give a shout out to Kenco, a British coffee company that’s making huge strides to reduce the waste that goes along with their consumer packaging.

Their coffee is traditionally sold in glass single use glass jars. Now, they’re asking their customers to reuse those containers and buy their eco-refills. The eco-refills are bags with 97% less packaging waste.

To get people’s attention about their new eco-refills, they’re running a video campaign with Amanda Holden from Britain’s Got Talent.

The campaign encourages Brits to re-think their trash and join The Kenco Eco Refill Waste Less Challenge. The new ‘packaging diet’ highlights simple ways to “lose waste.” Refilling and reusing empty coffee jars alone could mean 26,000 less tons of packaging waste sent to the landfills in Great Britain each year.

To kick off the campaign, the residents of three Waste Lanes around the country are challenged to dramatically reduce their packaging waste over the next four weeks to inspire others to join up. The results are being featured in a special online documentary called ‘Life in the Waste Lane’, which are being shown on www.kenco.co.uk and www.youtube.com/kenco.

The Eco Refill pack is the second step that Kenco has taken to improve their eco-friendly habits. Last year Kenco made a commitment to source the coffee for its entire stock from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ sources by 2010.

So which American corporations are going to step up and make similar eco-friendly improvements? I know there’s a lot smaller independent and family owned making difference, but what about some major corporations?

Then tonight I have a meeting, but I couldn’t leave you without the Daily Shot Of Coffee again.

Here’s the latest ad campaign from Caribou Coffee. It features their two animated characters – Jack a pumpkin and Gourdo his gourd friend. They’re talking about the fall food and drinks from Caribou, cannibalism and carving each other up. Depending on where you’re sense of humors falls, you’re either going to think these are really creepy or downright funny.

What do you think?

If you’re not buying coffee from the Port City Coffee Roasters, you’re missing out on some good coffee. Earlier this week, I enjoyed their Mudslide flavored coffee. Today, I tried their Bed And Breakfast blend.

The Bed And Breakfast is a blend of Central and South American coffees. They describe it as having a Colombian heritage, medium roast with a hint of dark roast for extra flavor. Besides flavored coffee, medium roast blends are always on the top of my shopping list so I couldn’t wait to give it a shot.

The coffee had a smooth, relaxing aroma with a hint of freshly cut wood. I’ll admit that I haven’t tasted a lot of freshly cut wood, but that’s the image that I had when smelled it. I know, I’m kind of weird, but it’s what I got.

The taste was complex with a lot of different layers and things going on. There was two or three different coffee tastes that I was getting as well has hints of what I call green – vegetables mixed with grass. There was a little bit of chocolate and herbal tea in the taste too. It was really an enjoyable taste to have in my mouth.

Overall, it had a full body with a smooth taste that I really liked drinking. It’s the perfect kind of coffee to drink on a daily basis, especially in the morning to get you going.

I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 cup rating, it’s above average and way better than the so-called Medium Roast from Dunkin Donuts that I had yesterday. However, it really isn’t fair to compare to the Dunkin Donuts coffee, because the Port City Coffee Roasters are really playing in a whole different ballpark.

You can buy the Bed And Breakfast blend at the Port City Coffee Roasters website for $10.95 a pound in ground or whole bean forms. Of course, they have many other coffees to check out. I still have a couple more to review, but I can already tell you that just about whatever you order from there is going to be satisfying for your palate.

BEFORE you hit play, I have to warn you that this is my first video and I’m a writer, not a video journalist. Actually my second, the first didn’t go so well. I was demonstrating how to clean your coffee maker and had some issues. The problem was that the camera was so off target that it wasn’t even funny.

Anyway, I promise the videos will get better and I promise to say “um” a lot less. If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.

Tonight, I’m reviewing the New York Coffee Lexington Ave Blend. This is my third New York Coffee. I’ve tried the Park Ave Blend with mixed results and enjoyed their Broadway Blend. The Lexington Ave was an average of all three. It wasn’t anything exceptional, but it wasn’t bad either.

It’s a dark roast and the taste was initially a little on the bitter side. But underneath it, I could taste the rich chocolate fudge and a hint of the creme brulee they mention in the description. The creme brulee while on the weaker side, seemed to last with an after taste for even a few minutes after a sip.

Initially the first time I tasted this coffee this morning, I really didn’t like it. However, I tasted it later on and the second tasting made a difference. It’s definitely an afternoon or evening tea.

The introductory offers includes four bags of their different blends, as well as a thermal mug for $18.95 or an electric mug for $24.95.
