Coffee Burgers For Fourth Of July

by Mike on July 3, 2009 in Coffee Recipes

Coffee Burgers

Just in time for the Fourth Of July, here’s a recipe for coffee burgers. It combines two of my favorite things – grilling and coffee. I received a lot of weird looks and questions when I said that I was working on a coffee recipe, but the taste isn’t at all what you’re thinking. The coffee gives it a woody, almost cedar like taste that makes it really standout.

I should note, that if it’s not already obvious, I’m not a trained chef in anyway. I’ve had years of experience drinking coffee and working the grill, but I don’t know the proper terminology when it comes to cooking and recipes. The recipe is pretty simple and I love to experiment, so the recipe is constantly changing.

Serving size: Four burgers

Ingredients

1 pound of ground beef

1 heaping tablespoon of dark roasted ground coffee

2 heaping tablespoons of breadcrumbs

A dash of seasoned salt

A dash of pepper

A dash of oregano

Bacon

Cheddar or American Cheese

Potato Hamburger Buns or Kaiser Roll

And any other toppings that you like – lettuce, tomatoes, etc

Method

Mix the coffee, breadcrumbs seasoned slat, pepper and oregano into a large bowl.

Split the meat into four equal pieces and coat them into the coffee/breadcrumb mix. Roll them into a ball, then flatten about ½ inch thick.

I’m not going to tell you how to grill the burgers, I think everyone has their own technique. But I’ll say that I add the bacon and cheese after I flip them over a second time. As soon as the cheese is almost melted, I take them off.

Recommend serving with a cold beer.

That’s it really simple, but really delicious.

Let me know how it goes. I’ve mixed coffee with a lot of things, but thought of coffee and burgers, however, I’m glad I tried it.

Whoa! I am a big fan of unusual flavor combinations so I will have to try this out. It sounds cool! I never would have thought of putting coffee into burgers.

You know when you first mentioned this to me I thought you had completely lost your mind, I know that is still true but after this post it doesn’t sound too bad.

Coffee burger! Now that’s genius! I can’t wait to try this out. Coffee/espresso grounds seared onto steak make for an awesome flavor, I never even thought of doing it with a hamburger.

Thanks for making my mouth happy. If only it wasn’t 1 in the morning… I’d fire up the grill right now.

Holy smokes, these were good! I added a little onion powder and worcestershire (because I put it on everything), but just a little because I was really hoping for the smokey, espresso flavor to come through. They were awesome. Don’t overcook, or the coffee-ness dissipates. Interesting, unique and yums. Would also recommend a white cheese, like Swiss or Mozzarella. Oh! and a low-brow table Chianti.

Keurig – I haven’t tried it with steaks, but several people have mentioned that to me now, so I think I’m going to have to try that soon.

Staci Ducote – I’m so excited that you liked it! I’m going to have to try it with onion power and worcestershire sauce next time. I’m a huge fan of Swiss cheese, I should’ve included that. I really don’t do a lot of wine when I’m grilling, but a red wine sounds perfect to go with the coffee burgers.
