Daily Shot Of Coffee Fine Print

Back in the beginning of December, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) put into effect rules that bloggers must disclose certain things. They’re good rules designed to protect consumers and since I’m not a fan of $10,000 fines, I put up a disclosure page with all of the legal jargon. I put together the page myself and I’m still not sure what half of it means. Around the the same time I started writing little disclosure statements at the end of the posts. It was fun at first, but now I’ve started to run out of funny (at least to me) ways to write my disclosure. So, I thought I would just write one final disclosure post, in English and just link to it from now on.

Here it is…

From time to time, coffee companies, manufactures, etc send me coffee and coffee related equipment for review purposes. They don’t pay me to review their products and the only promise to them that I make is that I’ll review their products.

I make every attempt to do a fair and honest review every time, whether they’re an advertiser or some random joe from off the street. I try to give the most thorough review with the good and the bad, so that you can use it as a guide to determine whether or not you’d like a certain coffee, product, etc.

On this blog, you’ll find that some of the links go to shopping sites like Amazon, etc. On some of those sites, I’ll get a small kick back (usually, just enough to buy a cup of coffee) from those sites when you buy a product through them. That money goes to pay the hosting bills, etc.

And that’s it. I try to be as fair and open about this blog, so if you have any questions, just let me know.

I had no idea about these new regulations. Just a reminder that it’s amazing what I can learn from a coffee blog. Thanks Mike.

    • Mike says:

I’ve ready way too many articles about the regulations, I’m still not really sure what they all mean! And of course your welcome.

I sometimes put a disclaimer on a review when I just wanted to review the product. It’s really sad when you have to disclaim that you were paid nothing, received nothing, and decided to write about something just because.

    Mike,
As I was reading a coffee blog and was so into it, I looked up and your blog was sitting on top of the email list like spying on me. Had the feeling you were asking ” Why are you reading another blog and not mine? LOL….see what all this caffeine is doing to me!
I’m getting paranoid ! Is that a side effect? Just wondering or is it a Monday kind of thing? I hope it passes or I’m going to have to stop getting the other coffee blog news and just be loyal to YOU and yours. Time for some “Voodoo coffee” to keep the devils away. It also could be lack of sleep from watching too much news on TV. Have a great week Mike. Hey it’s warming up in northwest Florida feels great!

    • Mike says:

You were on another coffee blog? Just joking, I spend an hour or two every night checking out other coffee blogs.

It’s starting to warm up down here in central Florida but I’m still looking for firewood in case it cools down again.

    Hi Mike,
This morning as I was planning our menu for the week thought about how we pair wine with food. Do you know if “coffee enthusiasts” do the same with coffee the black coffee not the flavored coffees? I’d like your input or anyone else who has their opinion. Thanks in advance.

    • Rose says:

Geri, That’s a great question. Coffee is usually served at desert and because I take cream and a tiny bit of sugar in my coffee, it sometimes tastes like it changes the sweetness of my dessert. I think it depends on if you take your coffee black, with cream, with sugar etc. to pair food items properly. Since I am a fanatic for coffee and desert I have a lot of experience with the different tastes. Seriously, you should do a study and sample different things together.

    Rose,
Thanks for your reply, I’ll be doing some serious reading about coffee and how the roasters blend and mix different batches so hopefully I’ll be able to select which ones may go with what I’m preparing. I’ve fallen for the Harrar coffee recently and hope to find more coffee on this order. It’s so smooth and has a delightful flavor. Appreciate your input. Have a great evening nice to meet you here.

I have to say I’m really fascinated by the whole coffee-food pairing. It’s something I’ve played around with, but I think there’s so much more that I can explore.

I agree with Rose that it really depends on whether you have the coffee black, with cream, etc.

Thanks for laying it down Mike, it’s nice to see that your reviews aren’t paid. :)
