Mike, had fun doing the survey this morning. It helped me examine what I really want to do this new year in the coffee department. I was thinking about trying some sample bags I’ve seen at some stores. That way I can branch out and get out of my coffee rut. After all that is why I started hanging out here on your wonderful blog. Looking forward to this new year sipping new brews with you and everyone. So much to try only 362 days left to this year LOL! so we better get started perking, dripping and pressing. Best to you and all the bloggers in 2010!

Thanks for taking the survey!

I’m all about trying new coffees, this year or really any year. I like the idea of trying 365 coffees in one year.

Mike and all,
I have two questions for this first week of 2010:

1) What do you do with your coffee grounds?
Are they thrown out or used around plants

2) When you purchase coffee is it bought from special roasters most of the time or do you pick up a bag at your local grocery store or coffee shop?

This year I’m going to be more specific what I drink and when and not take coffee for granted since there are so many to enjoy. Going to be a coffee detective this year. So far the “Harrar Ethiopian” has my vote.

1. I used to have a compost heap for my coffee grounds etc, now I live in a place where that isn’t possible.

2. I’m about 50/50 with roasters vs. grocery store. It really depends on what’s available and what I’d like to review. Like when I felt I was doing too many specialty roasters, I bought the 8 o’clock from the grocery store.

Would you mind if I used these questions in future weekly polls?

Hi Mike,
By all means use these questions, no problem. It will be interesting to hear what others think.

While I’m here I’ll add an extra question.
3) Do you use the plain white bleached coffee filters or
the natural tan colored filters ?

I use the tan ones if available try to stay away from bleach and chemicals as much as possible. Hard these days but take advantage of anything natural if possible.
Enjoy 2010 as it gets off to a good start this week. Nothing like football games, the sofa and COFFEE…or your fav. brew of the moment.

I enjoyed a lot of time on the couch watching football and sipping coffee this weekend! I wish I had more nice long weekends like that.

I used the plain white, but I actually had that one one of my blog posts for the future to see if there was a taste difference, etc.

Not sure why it did that, but it’s a plugins and plugins seem to like to drive me insane sometimes. Thanks though for the kind words. I try.

Just completed the survey Mike!

As for those questions Geri -

1) Have to admit I’m currently throwing them out. I’d like to see if I can change that this year.

2) Much like Mike, but I’d say 60/40, since I have a few local roasters to choose from(today it was http://www.catfishcoffee.com instead of http://www.transcendcoffee.com for a change). I should add that I plan to get back into roasting this year.

& 3) Haven’t used(the natural tan)filters for a few months now. I still have 1/2 a box sitting there unused*sniff abandoned lol. I’m either using french press or stovetop moka pot. I am going to get an Aerpress this year though

Thanks for answering the survey questions Darrell.

Have you tried the Aeropress before? I think you’ll love it.

Coffee filters?! who needs them. You just mix your coffee with some hot water and it’s good to go. I lie. I actually try to use the brown filters although I have no idea if there’s a difference in taste. As for inexpensive decent coffee…Costco offers a nice selection.

There’s days where I just want to skip the filter and just throw the coffee into the water….those days are usually Mondays.

Everyone,
It’s 28 degrees here in north Florida.
I’m dreaming of a mocha but if I drink it now it will keep me awake so I’ll save it for tomorrow. Does that happen to you? Floridians all across and up and down the state are shivering along with their pets and the wild creatures not to mention the vegetable and fruit growers. What a winter already! Ouch! Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend stay warm enjoy your brew!

When I left my friend’s house last night, I had to defrost my car! It had a good solid layer of ice on it. A first in Florida!

I’m always having coffee cravings, luckily I can usually get away with having a late coffee fix without any repercussions.

Weather’s been crazy Mike! The Winter Olympics in Vancouver are a few days away & today Vancouver was a couple degrees warmer than Tampa.

But no, I had thought about picking up an Aeropress. I hadn’t tried it yet though – a goal(& hey it’s coffee-related, so an E-asily attainable goal lol)for this new year,

Mike January 12, 2010 at 7:51 am

I think this year they could hold the Winter Olympics down here. However, we’re supposed to snap out of this in a few days and see daytime temps back into the 70′s.

That’s my kind of goal for this year!
