Earthquake Blend From Newhall Coffee Review

The Drink: Earthquake Blend From Newhall Coffee
Type: Ground Blend
Overall Rating: 3.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs

I’ve been in a couple minor earthquakes, nothing more than a 4.0 on the Richter Scale, (an experience that most Californians would probably label as practice) but nothing prepared me for the strength of the jolt from latest coffee that I tried from Newhall Coffee, their Earthquake Blend.

Wake-up California-style with a high impact blend. A Central American bean with a very strong bite but with a rolling mild finish. You will find nutty and chocolaty notes with this bean mixed with a strong and crisp body. A Guatemala from the Antigua Region, located between 3 volcanoes and grown on volcanic forested soil. This is a Caturra type of bean grown on an elevation between 4,500 – 5,500 feet.
-Newhall Coffee Description

I’ve smelled chocolate in many coffees, but the Earthquake Blend had a unique aroma that reminded me of Cocoa Krispies. Yes, Cocoa Krispies, which I’m now craving. The chocolate flavor was mixed in with a nutty aroma and just a hint of spices.

But what gives this coffee it’s name is the taste. It was strong, like strong enough to knock you off your feet with the first sip. Some people might even say that it causes an earthquake in your mouth. There’s no way around it, from the first sip to the moment that the after taste fades away, I was thinking this is a strong coffee with an exceptionally heavy body. The taste had a very nutty flavor, with just hints of the chocolate that I smelled a few minutes earlier.

Earthquake Blend earned a solid 3.5 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. It’s strong, but it’s still smooth and very drinkable even for a medium roast drinker like me.

    Mike;
    i’m seeing this as a strong bite strong coffee.
    that might not be my favorite taste.
    am i off on this?

    • Mike says:

      I would say that this isn’t a howard coffee. It’s more like a coffee for my dad, who likes coffee so strong that it could wake up a mule.

  2. howard says:

    so this is ‘mule’ coffee?
    afraid i’d have to put those beans out to pasture…
    (and that’s despite the …aroma of Cocoa Krispies…)
