The Drink: Ethiopian Yigrechaffe from Rockin’ Coffee
Type: Whole Bean Single Origin
Overall Rating: 4.0 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
If you only drink one coffee for the rest of your life, what would it be? For me, it would be Ethiopian Yigracheffe. With it’s overflowing flavors of fruits and wines, it’s probably not for everyone, especially when it’s lightly roasted. However, I think I may have found a Yirgacheffe that almost any coffee fan would like.
This Ethiopian Yigracheffe comes from upstart New England coffee roaster Rockin’ Coffee. It’s a Fair Trade and Organic bean that has a medium roast. Their tasting notes mention a strong earthy woodiness, segues to clove, chocolate, and a great variety of fruity, citrusy notes. I could not wait to brew up a batch in my French Press and get my rock on!
Like many Yigracheffes, this one had a lot going on in the aroma department. The aroma was lead by a fruity, almost raspberry like scent. There were hints of oranges, spices, a drop or two of chocolate and a little sweetness that reminded me of rock candy.
In the taste department, I was expecting fruit and wine flavors, however this one gave me a different kind of show. I got the earthy and woody flavors that they mentioned. I also picked up on a distinct chocolate flavor. Finally, I got the fruity flavor I was expecting, It trailed off with a hint of lemon.
This coffee was thick and left my tongue feeling dry. It was an experience!

Overall, not exactly what I was expecting, but it was a great coffee. It earned an above average 4 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale.

Totally on board with the Yirgacheffe love. I’d also pick it as my “only region to drink if you could only pick one forever”; thankfully, we don’t have to make that choice.
Yeah I wouldn’t want to make that choice, that’s for sure, but if I had to…
when i get a lemon taste from a coffee, my
mouth feels distinctly tingly….pretty interesting.
sounds like one i’d enjoy Mike.
maybe i’d brew it double amount of
the coffee to make a strong coffee
yet enjoy the medium roast.
and…i should mention… from what is printed
on the bag this one is ORGANIC.
wow
