Ethiopian Yirgacheffe from Barista On Duty – What I’m Drinking

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe

The Drink: Ethiopian Yirgacheffe from Barista On Duty
Type: Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5 coffee cups

On Twitter, there’s a lot of coffee lovers. One of them that stands out is BaristaOnDuty. He’s a coffee enthusiast that pan roasts and I think drinking coffee 24-7. I love coffee, but I think he might even have me beat.

He sent me three of the coffees that he roasts and tonight the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is in my cup. I’ve had several good Yirgacheffe coffees this year and this one is right with those.

The aroma coming from the cup was warm and fruit like. It was well balanced with just hints of citrus like oranges, spices like pepper and cinnamon and a bit of grapes.

The initial taste caught me a little off guard. It was stronger than I was expecting from a coffee that had such a warm, fruit like smell. I liked it, I was just expecting it to be more fruity. Instead, it had a more serious coffee taste full of nuts and spices.

However, as it hit the middle of my tongue, there was a sweet-fruity wave. When it cooled down, it was almost wine-like, more along the lines of what I was expecting.

The after taste was strong, but not too over powering. It was relaxing and just about perfect.

One other thing that really stood out to me was the fully body on this coffee. It was heavy, almost like it was weighing down my tongue.

Overall, a very delicious coffee from Barista On Duty. This one earned a respectable 3.5 out of 5 Daily Shot Of Coffee rating. I’m looking forward to trying the other two samples he sent me.

You can try them for yourself via the Barista On Duty website.

If the other two samples were anything like this one, I’m think that he should definitely be admired. So far, so good.

I went out and bought a Moka pot just to try the Yirgacheffe this time. I must say it was totally worth it. The citrus explosion was amazing and had practically no bitter aftertaste. Instead, a very nice lingering earthy flavor. I like this one as my “wake-up” coffee and the Harrar for my afternoon refuel.
