Until my most recent experiences, I was a huge fan of Eight O’Clock Coffee. It was the one coffee that I remember buying at grocery stores and never have any complaints about. However the coffees that I tried in the past few months have been disappointing. The French Vanilla was average, the Hazelnut tasted off and the Original tasted stale.

My experience with the French Roast was different. I was expecting the worst, and got something delicious and very drinkable. For me to say that about a darker roast is pretty remarkable, I’m not usually a fan of darker roasts.

The aroma coming from the French Roast was a enticing nutty scent. It was full of flavor with hints of something sweet. The best part is that it didn’t smell burnt like some dark roasts.

The initial sip won my tongue over with a smooth dark roast taste – not at all bitter. The aftertaste caught my attention next, a dark dark roast flavor, but not at all bitter and not over roasted either. In between was a sweet-honey like dark roast flavor.

Overall, a very drinkable coffee. An above average ratting of 3.5 out of five on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale.

There’s nothing crazy in this coffee that’s going to make my tongue do back flips, but it’s the kind of coffee that would be perfect for every day drinking, especially since it seems to always be on sale at the local grocery store, sometimes even by one get one free.

I think the French Roast saved Eight O’Clock Coffee for me, so much that I’d consider going back and re-reviewing some of the ones that I didn’t like. On one condition, the coffee has to be fresh.
