In this weeks coffee news round up, there’s everything from a disgruntled coffee drinker’s letter to a company that makes bad coffee to a more series news story on Kenyan coffee crops decreasing because of heavy rains.

Muddy Dog Coffee Top 10 Ways to Drink Better Coffee in 2010
#2 is my favorite. One of the great things about coffee is that there’s so many to try. Even if you try the same coffee from three different places, it could taste three completely different ways.

Coffee And Conservation Farmers are abandoning organic coffee – and it’s your fault
Last week I mentioned a blog post about farmers giving up on organic and fair trade coffees. This article is about the same report, but includes a couple of real life tips on what we can do to help the coffee growers and our own health.

Dear Coffee An open letter to Red Diamond
I’ve never heard of Red Diamond coffee, but after reading this letter, I’m glad that I’ve never heard of it. There’s been a few times when I’ve been tempted to write similar letters.

BV Roastery Coffee Fudge Brownies!
I love brownies, especially ones made with coffee. I like everything about this recipe, except the part about using decaf coffee. Why on earth would you do something like that?

Yakima’s Bikini Baristas Insist They Follow The Law, Serve Only Coffee
You know it’s a slow news week when they’re still talking about the bikini baristas. I’m beginning to think that all these city governments and television news shows should find something more important to talk about, like how the coffee tastes….I mean poverty and crime.

Thank you!

The scantily clad baristas don’t offend me. It’s almost kind of funny. They’re adults, and heck lots of people just walking around are wearing way too revealing of clothes. I’m more offended by people who are wearing inappropriate attire for the situation (too low cut of blouses, high cut skirts in a courtroom!).

I think it’s kind of funny how they’re making such a big deal about it. I really think that there’s bigger things to worry about.

Can a beverage made without coffee beans be called coffee? Shouldn’t it be given it’s own name, like ‘roasted raisin cider’ or something else? I personally would like to try it. I’m sure it won’t be long before it is being made here in the US, if it isn’t already. But I don’t think it should be called coffee. Why isn’t The Plain English Campaign on this? They need to add this to their agenda : )

I don’t understand the fuss about the bikini baristas. It’s just their unique method of marketing, like a lawn services offering the same “package” that has been in the news. Some people will object, others will realize it’s just their way of positioning themselves apart from the competition. Apparently it’s working by getting them free press. Hopefully the coffee tastes good.

I don’t think it’s really coffee, just kind of.maybe tastes like coffee. I don’t know…where is the The Plain English Campaign when we need them!

I don’t know if the coffee tastes good there, but you’re right, they’re getting lots of free press about it.
