There was a lot going on in the coffee world last week, and believe it or not, most of it wasn’t about the “coffee wars” that I enjoy talking about so much.
Read this over coffee
Coffee gets a fair amount of negative press, every few months or so there’s a new scientific study about the negative health effects of coffee. Well, here’s a look at the some of the positive effects. It reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke, liver cancer and helps protect the liver against cirrhosis. If you’re going to go workout afterward, coffee will give you a boost too. So, now it’s time for me to really enjoy this cup of coffee.
Patterns: It May Not Be Caffeine Keeping You Awake.
What does the New York Times really know? This article says that caffeine and coffee doesn’t keep people awake. They did some sort of study where they tricked people into going without caffeine and allegedly they did fine without it. I don’t believe it!
Dippin’ Dots looks for next flash-frozen hit: Coffee dots
I first heard about this on Coffee Nomad, I was never a huge fan of Dippin’ Dots, but if they throw in some caffeine or coffee, you can count me in.

We might be getting coffee from places like Starbucks less often, that doesn’t mean that we’re drinking lesser quality coffee. This article looks at the increasing trend of people buying their own designer coffee machines and making their own cafe like coffee.
Americans love their coffee, and brewers want to help them make it right at home.

No ‘A’ for this ‘commute’ — McCafe coffee ad leaves us cold
This writer didn’t like the new McCafe TV ads at all. I can’t say I really blame him, they were amusing for about five seconds, but it doesn’t take too much to cross the line with cheesy French accents.
Moody’s lowers Starbucks debt rating
While it’s not a direct result of the coffee wars, it’s not looking too good for Starbucks. Further proof that they need to wake up tomorrow morning, drink a large cup of coffee and really get back into the game.

I think Dippin’ Dots might have been the worst invention ever. I don’t even think I would try them coffee flavored.
You throw coffee or caffeine into anything I will at least try it.
I have no doubt that Mike would try dippin dots flavored coffee or any other coffee product. You need a coffee tattoo, rebel!
In all seriousness, after reading your “Coffee Wars” posts I noticed it every time I went to McDonald’s in the morning for breakfast, they have some new punch card gimmick too. I like the Coffee Wars you post about, as for the negative press it’s like Bacon, Beer, Wine or anything else if someone likes it there’s someone else out there trying to scare them out of using it.
I haven’t see the punch card gimmick, but I haven’t actually been inside of a McDonald’s for a while.
