I’m afraid I come from a Scottish/French family who wouldn’t dream of spending fiv e dollars for a latte when one can get a cup of luke warm coffee at one’s desk by putting a dime in the instant coffee kitty at the office or drinking store brand coffee on sale 8 oz of instant for $3.
Living large is not part of the script in our family.
I remember as a child my father putting us kids in the trunk to sneak us in to a raceway. They charged per person rather than per car.
We slept on the hood of the car for warmth on vacation instead of in a motel.
Incredible I know. Kind of defeats the whole idea of coffee, racing and vacation. But there it is.

I do find myself taking a thermos with me more often recently. I used to stop at a local cafe for my $4 latte, now its simple black Joe in a thermos.
