McDonald's Starbucks Dunkin Donuts Really, there’s only one story in coffee land this week – the battle for coffee drinker’s money between Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s and Starbucks. You may have noticed this week that McDonald’s is hitting with shock and awe, touting their McCafe on television, billboards and on the internet. Of course, don’t count out Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts just yet.

Coffee wars are on — but which coffee is best?

This was a very unscientific and random taste test by the Chicago Sun Times. I love random and unscientific polls, but the survey size might have been just too small to get a real idea of what consumers are really thinking. Starbucks was picked the most by the taste testers, but it looks like all of the coffee companies have a lot work on when it comes to the taste of their coffee drinks.

McDonald’s April Sales Gain 6.9% on Breakfast, Coffee

It looks like McDonald’s may have won an early battle in the coffee wars, their sales were up last month, including an increase in McCafe drinks.

Which made me wonder, who is going to be the real winner? I don’t see any of the companies going out of business because of a “coffee war” but one of them may end up controlling the market when it’s all over and it’s looking right now that it won’t be Starbucks anymore. So, what do us, the average coffee drinkers get? Right now, it looks like we’re the real winners – more selections and better prices. Be warned, I feel the beginning of a full length blog post on the topic coming up…maybe.
