I’ve heard that it’s starting to cold in some places, that there’s even snow, but in coffee land there’s still baristas wearing bikinis. This week’s coffee news round up includes everything from coffee drinking mice to talking coffee makers. Really what else can you ask for?

Several winners of this year’s Nobele Peace Prize cited coffee as a factor in their successful work. However, instead of using coffee to keep them awake and functioning, they said it was the coffee breaks and conversations with their colleagues that aided them.

Even before I knew what it was to be drunk, I knew that you could drink coffee to sober up. However, now some scientists with mice say that we we’re all wrong. I can just see the mice running around with tiny bottles of Heineken and Starbucks paper cups.

And we have a winner in the coffee wars! Or at least in the battle for the single service market. Buying Diedrich will give Green Mountain Coffee a huge chunk of the market, leaving Peet’s behind in the dust.
