I agree with the sentiment that the Plain English Campaign folks have too much time on their hands. Couldn’t they just not go to Starbucks? Even if you go to Starbucks and order a small coffee instead of a tall the barista would know what you mean.

It makes me wonder if they have a problem with the word latte or americano. Should those terms be “plain english” too?

I read the article and they also have a problem with the word “regular” I kind of agree that regular is confusing though.

I worked at several cafes and bakeries in New York and I had to learn that to a lot of New Yorkers “regular” means milk and sugar. Being from California I never thought of what a regular coffee might be, I thought it meant black. Not wanting to assume anything I always asked for clarification from the customer.

Ah, so that’s my problem. I love my lattes. When I drink tea I put in a dab of honey or nothing at all, which would explain any weight loss gained [hmmm, that made more sense in my head].

I’m right there with the plain english. Sometimes jargon in general can annoy me, but it’s definitely not going away and there are bigger things to worry about.

I think that drinking just black coffee can actually help people lose weight. I know it helped me when I switched to just black coffee. However, when we put in all of the good stuff that goes into a latte, all bets are off.

Who is defining ‘Plain English’ anyway? I like Venti and Grande even if I say them funny and sound like an uber-geek. I still get my coffee and in the correct size no less. But I digress.

I heard once [a few years back] that coffee is like beer in that it helps retain belly fat. I switched to tea for quite some time, but always seem to come back to coffee. Not sure if it made any difference.

Now to check out some of the perks of coffee and how to use these to my best advantage.

You’re definitely right about that. My asthma is actually the reason I started drinking coffee.

That MSN article just barely touched on a few. Some others are pain reduction during and post exercise, improved endurance-exercise performance, reduction in exercise-induced asthma symptoms, and it may prevent gout. Just to add a few from a growing list.
I went to the Plain English Campaign website. Wow, it’s quite larger and more organized than I would have guessed.
