Fresh Brews: World’s Strongest Coffee, Bastardized Espresso And More

Another exciting week in the coffee blogoshphere. Here’s a few of the highlights that I’ve been reading:

Shot Zombies: Introducing The World’s Strongest Coffee
The crew over at Shot Zombies found a website that claims to have the world’s strongest coffee. I’m more into taste, but I was willing to try this one until I saw the price tag – $24.99 for a pound. I think I’ll pass on this one.

Metro Espresso: Coffee Setup in the Office: Spreading Coffee Love
Besides the crazy commute, working in an office isn’t bad except for not having a good source quality coffee! Jack found one solution, although maybe not practical for all offices. How do you get your coffee at the office?

Coffee & Conversation: How much does eco-certification cost?
A look at the price tag that farmers must pay to have their coffee certified Organic, Rain Forest Alliance, etc. I try to by Fair Trace, etc as often as possible, but this is further proof that all these certifications aren’t perfect.

God Shot: espresso – bastard stepchild of US coffee?
I like pour over brewed coffee as much as the next coffee fanatic, but I don’t want it to replace espresso either. What do you think?

  1. making (actually being part of the process) coffee in the
office is a great way to meet women. most times a guy who
can ‘get it done’ in the kitchen is good to go everywhere else.

['...Metro Espresso: Coffee Setup in the Office: Spreading Coffee Love...]

    he didn’t mention that issue.

  2. heck you could add a ’5 hour energy shot’ to
a good coffee and have a VERY strong coffee.
this is beginning to sound like a dorm prank.

  3. if you take a good arabica grind and brew successive
small amounts into one tall thermos cup Mike,
you end up with a VERY strong coffee anyway.

    still….Shot Zombies … that’s one name i wish
    i had thought of first.

and, if you add some choice tea bags to the coffee you
end up with a caffeinated growl that will put hair
on your chest and run in the top 5 of contestants
    for strongest coffee.

  4. World’s strongest espresso? I think you should review it and compare it both as a shot and as a cup of drip coffee! :)
Just wanted to say hello Mike! It’s been way too long.

    • Good to see you Melody! My schedule is slowly starting to return to normal and I hope to do more commenting over on your side of the blogosphere again.

If it wasn’t $25, I probably would! However, I’d rather spend my money on some “higher quality” coffee.

  5. $25 a pound for over-roasted robusta… good job on passing Mike, think your taste buds will thank you!
As far as office coffee goes, freshly ground Sumatran or Blue Mountain via an AeroPress is about as happy as I get… And I don’t have to risk my life by entering Starbucks (see coffeesage article – http://www.coffeesage.com/archives/2011/03/starbucks-sued-over-tip-jar/ )

    • I think the Aeropress would work a lot better in my office. I’ll have to get some more filters so I can start using it again. Great idea.

That’s a crazy and sad story about that incident at Starbucks. I’d be surprised if Starbucks didn’t have a policy that said employees should not chase after robbers. Most retail places I have worked have had some sort of policy like that.
