Fresh Brews: Would You Like Cocaine With Your Coffee?

Overall, a pretty slow week in the world of coffee news. However, there were a few highlights worth checking out…
Colombian coffee comes with smuggled cocaine
This might get you really going in the morning. Customs agents in New Orleans, intercepted a coffee shipment that came with a hidden half ton of cocaine. I’ve tried a lot of different things in my coffee, but I think I’m going to pass on that one.
McDonald’s Mocha Mondays Mean Free Coffee For Customers
In Coffee Wars news, McDonald’s wants everyone to taste their McCafe drinks. Starting this Monday and running through August 3rd, they’re giving away samples of their hot and iced mochas. I might have to find an excuse to head over to McDonald’s on Monday. For research purposes of course.
Dunkin’ Donuts officially departs Penn Station to make way for Canadian chain Tim Hortons
In other coffee war news, Dunkin Donuts lost a battle. They’re closing down shop in New York’s Penn Station and are going to be replaced by Tim Hortons. I didn’t see that one coming. It should be interesting to see if this is the beginning of Tom Hortons becoming a household name in America, the way it is in Canada.
VASSALBORO Owner wants to replace topless coffee shop
Remember that topless coffee shop that burned down last month? Well, the owner is working to rebuild it as quick as they can. I realize today that I may be a coffee geek, because I started to wonder if they’re going to start roasting their own beans and wondered what they’re going to offer on their menu.

This is one of my favorite articles that you post Mike, I especially dig the coffee wars.
I only wish that I enjoyed the McDonald’s Coffee’s, I would have taken advantage of the freebies.
Good call passing up on the cocaine coffee, Im already concerned about your coffee intake and crazy coffee hamburgers.
Glad you like it. You have to try the coffee burgers, they’re great.
Well, if you HAD to pick, would you try the coffee with cocaine or the coffee found mixed with Viagra in Malaysia? =)
Haha, that would be a tough decision. Since the Viagra was probably a knock off version, both are probably pretty dangerous.
True story–the cashier at one of our local McDonald’s asked my husband if he would like to try a free sample of their newest coffee–I think it was hazelnut somethingorother–my husband declined and the cashier sighed and said, “We can’t even GIVE this crap away!” lol I tried one of the free iced mocha lattes last Monday and I know why–yuck!
That’s an awesome story Renee. Made me laugh out loud because I could picture a cashier saying that.
