Yesterday morning I woke up with a coffee called Caphe Agenda, roasted by Barista on Duty. It’s a bean that comes all the way from Vietnam. I’ve tried a handful of coffees from there and for the most part they were okay, but I could tell they were treated more like a commodity than anything else. However, with a coffee from Barista On Duty, I had a feeling that I was going to be getting something where quality was more important than quantity.

The Caphe Agenda got my attention with it’s aroma. Coming from my cup was blueberry flavored mixed with hints of chocolate, cinnamon and sugar with a mild nutty flavor underneath it all, or in other words pure awesomeness for someone like me who loves a flavorful cup of coffee.

The taste was a little bit more serious – a nutty flavor mixed with blueberries and just a hint of chocolate. It was a little sour tasting at first and I didn’t really like it until it cooled down. That’s when the slight sourness disappeared and the blueberry-nutty flavor came together to hit a home run.

It was a smooth sip with a medium body when I brewed it with a french press.

I should warn you that if you’re looking for a cheap coffee, you’re going to have to keep looking. Barista On Duty Coffees are $10 for two 3 ounce bags of home roasted or $15 for a 3 ounce bag of pan roasted. Of course, you’re definitely paying for quality.

Overall, this coffee earns an above average 3.75 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. For a minute I thought I found a coffee from Barista On Duty that I didn’t like, luckily he proved me wrong again.

    with the ‘pure awesomeness’ of the aroma,
    is the sour HOT taste something out of the ordinary?
    there haven’t been any coffees i’ve tasted that
    were sour and stll smelled fine while brewing.
    this must be very different.

    and if did have a good smelling coffee that
    turned out to be sour tasting, it would probably
    hit the sink before i’d let it cool down and
    summon enough courage for a second taste.

      I think sour is a semi-common taste and it wasn’t a significant sour taste or I would’ve thrown it down the sink too. I’ve noticed a handful of coffees that taste not so great hot, but a lot better when they cool down a few degrees. It’s interesting how a coffee can change like that.

I Have To Say As I Type I Sipping On The Darker Version, It Is Really More Defined, It’s Pretty Crazy, I’m Still Amazed That Agenda Scored 3.75 Using The French Press. IMO With Agenda Phin Filter Method, Med/Fine Grind Step Time 5+ Minutes. 4Minutes Doesn’t Bring All The Flavor N Body Out.6Min Seems To Be A Good Mark For Me, As The Flavor Of Vietnamese Coffee Doesn’t Degrade Like Some Coffees With Longer Steep Time.Vietnamese Preparation Is Truly An Art, Practice Makes Perfect, But The Technique Is Really Simple To Master..Thanks Again More Vietnamese Coffee To Come!! Phin Up!
