In the second part of the journey to explore the Starbucks menu, we’re heading to the Espresso section, by far my favorite part of the menu. This is where it gets interesting.
An espresso is a strong, black coffee that is brewed by forcing hot water through coffee grounds. It’s more concentrated, has more caffeine than regular coffee and the drinks that they can make with espresso are amazing.
At Starbucks, most espresso drinks can be ordered either hot or cold.
Espresso – If you order just an espresso, you get a single shot of espresso. You can order anywhere from one shot to four, if you’re feeling the need to get really caffeinated.
Espresso Macchiato – This is an espresso dripped into a cup of milk foam. You order it by the number of shots you want in it.
Espresso Con Panna – An espresso with whipped cream. Also, ordered by the number of shots you want.
Americano – It’s an espresso mixed with hot water until it’s about the same strength as regular coffee.
Latte – Espresso with steamed milk and foam.
Cappuccino – Similar to a latte but with more foam.
Caramel Macchiato – A vanilla latte with less vanilla, extra foam and a caramel sauce on top.
Mocha – This is an espresso, steamed milk and chocolate with whipped cream on top. They’re delicious and it’s pretty much my favorite everyday Starbucks drink.
White Mocha – They mix espresso, steamed milk and white chocolate syrup, then put whip cream on top.
Cinnamon Dolce Latte – This is what you get when you combine cinnamon, butter, brown sugar with espresso and steamed milk. It’s topped with whipped cream and Cinnamom Dolce sprinkles.
Espresso Truffle – Espresso with cocoa and steamed milk. Topped with whipped cream and chocolate powder.
Gingersnap Latte – Gingerbread flavor added to an espresso and steamed milk. They add whipped cream and ginger to the top.
Peppermint Mocha Twist – My favorite drink during the holiday season and one that they should really serve year round. It’s espresso with chocolate, peppermint flavor and steamed milk. On top they add peppermint whipped cream and chocolate curls. In other words it’s pure deliciousness.
Pumpkin Spice Latte – Espresso, steamed milk with pumpkin and traditional fall spice flavors. Whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices are added on top.
Syrup Flavored Latte – Espresso in steamed milk with your choice of syrup, then topped with foam. Year-round syrups include vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, hazelnut, sugar-free hazelnut, Irish creme, almond, mint, Valencia (orange), raspberry, caramel, and toffee nut.
Vanilla Latte – Espresso in steamed milk with vanilla syrup and topped with foam.
Your homework for tonight, is to go out and try everyone of those…ok maybe not. However, that might be the amount of caffeine that I need to keep me awake long enough to get all my work done.
Know any that I missed? Leave a comment below and I’ll add it to the list.

You have a good point. I know there’s more that isn’t included. I’ve amended the tail end of the post. Thanks.

Cindy – there is such a thing as raspberry mocha, but it’s one of those drinks that’s only available for limited times. Right now, I don’t think it’s at any Starbucks. I’ll double check with a couple of employees I know and let you know if I hear anything different.

I’m going to have to keep an eye out for that. The Starbucks I went to didn’t have either.
