Help Haiti Earthquake Relief By Drinking Coffee

by Mike on January 18, 2010 in Coffee News

If you’ve turned on your television anytime in the last week, you’ve seen the devastation that rocked Haiti. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed and millions are homeless, going hungry and need medical treatment. This is one of those times when people who can, step up and give what they can.

To help right now, text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti.

Several coffee companies have stepped up to help:

Barrington Coffee has created a heavy bodied, medium roast blend utilizing coffee from their Haitian Highlands Coffee Project. All proceeds from the sale of this coffee will go directly to the Partners In Health Earthquake Relief program in Haiti.

Intelligentsia has joined forces with Partners in Health to aid in the relief effort after the recent tragedy in Haiti. Intelligentsia will match donations dollar for dollar up to a total of $3000, for a combined donation of $6000.

Java Moose in New Brunswick, Canada, is selling a special coffee in their stores called Hatian Blue. All proceeds go to help Haitian relief.

Kohana Coffee is donating a $1 from every online purchase to Haitian earthquake relief.

Marley Coffee has been helping to raise money via Unicef and was helping at Sunday night’s charity event at the Golden Globes to aid Haiti.

Starbucks pledged a million dollars and is also taking donations for the Red Cross in their stores.

Please take a minute to check out the above sites or make a donation in person.

Do you know of any other companies doing something aid Haiti? Please leave a comment below or send a message via the contact form.

Great list. Helping those people suffered in the tragic earthquake in Haiti. I saw on tv how people really fight for food and water. It is really an outrage of terror to get food and water.

If Starbucks is donating that is good. I notice their nearest competitor Dunkin Donuts doesn’t seem to have any news on any donation drive for Haiti, which is not all that surprising coming from a company that has sued so many of its franchisees out of business lol.

Kafe Lespwa (coffee of hope) is a fair-trade-plus coffee grown by a small growers’ association in the remote village of Baraderes, Haiti. All proceeds benefit the growers’ association. Association members are just now discussing how to use some of their own profits to help with the many earthquake refugees returning to their village. Just Haiti will at least match their efforts and has created an online fund. More at http://justhaiti.org/news/news100123.htm
