Jamaican Blue Mountain From C&C Specialty Coffee Review

The Drink: Jamaican Blue Mountain from C&C Specialty Coffee
Type: Medium Roast Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 4.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs

I’ve checked Kopi Luwak off my bucket list. I’ve sampled the only coffee grown in the United States, Kona from Hawaii. And that’s just a couple of the exclusive coffees I’ve tasted in the last year.

However, there was one elite coffee that had been hiding from me, Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. C&C Specialty Coffee stepped in to solve that issue and sent me a pound of there 100% Grade 1 Blue Mountain Coffee.

From the minute I poured this coffee into my cup, I knew that it wasn’t like any others that I’ve tasted before. Not only was the aroma unique, but so was the taste.

The aroma was subtle, I had to take several strong sniffs to really get a complete picture of it. However, it’s not a weak aroma, just not strong. It was like it was telling me that it didn’t need to wear a lot of cologne or perfume to impress me.

In that subtle aroma, I was able to pick up a pleasing nutty-cinnamon smell. There were hints of something spicy and it was a little fruity.

The taste was well balanced, nothing stood out, but in this cause it was actually a good thing.

The main taste that I was able to pick out was a nutty, medium roast flavor. It became a little darker towards the end of the sip. Around the edges there were drops of sweetness and honey. Mixed in was something spicy, reminding me of a coffee from South America.

The flavor just hung out in my mouth, not wanting to fade away until I was ready for the next sip of coffee.

It was one of the smoothest tasting coffees that I’ve ever tasted. The body had some weight on it, a heavy, thick feeling like whole milk.

The only thing that would hold people back from getting this coffee is the price. It’s $38 a pound, which is a lot for coffee, but reasonable for Jamaican Blue Mountain. I’d love to make this an every day coffee, but at that price, I would say it’s perfect for special occasions, when you have friends over or just want to really drink a good coffee.

I really wasn’t sure where to rank this coffee. It was good, but how good? I ended up rating it an almost unheard of 4.5 out of 5, in the top tier of coffees that I’ve tasted.

I totally agree, it takes a skilled roaster to bring out the best in any bean.

Great review….This coffee does sound good. I have always been a cream and sugar kind of girl (powdered cream at that LOL), but after reading your posts I feel like I am missing out on so much flavor by adding anything to it. Looks like I may have to try my coffee black soon.

Mike February 5, 2010 at 10:06 am

You are missing out! You have to start trying coffees without cream and sugar. I’m sure that you’ll find some that you like.

OMG, I am so jealous! Don’t ‘spose you have any left you could ship down under. :-)

Just one question though… Why did it lose that half point? Seems to me it should deserve a 5 out of 5.

Sorry, I finished it all really quickly! It didn’t last long in my kitchen.

As far as the half point, it’s pure judgment call on my part. It’s an amazing coffee, but it wasn’t that perfect coffee.

Great news regarding the most over rated coffee that abuses little Luwaks. Have not tasted the latest Bule, but would love too after that review. Will have to import so green bean

I think it’s definitely worth checking out.

Thank you very much for singing the praises of my beloved coffee. I am a Blue Mountain Coffee farmer. My family have been for three generations. There is a whole lot of love in every single bean that we produce. I have always known that we produce some of the best coffee in th world, but it wasn’t until I became computer literate and started going online that I realized just how cherished and appreciated our coffee really is. Thanks again

Thank you for stopping by. Your region grows some amazing coffee. I have to go out and try more Blue Mountain coffee.

Michael Whyte February 13, 2010 at 1:55 pm

Great!! I know a Blue Mountain farmer you can get an amazing deal from …hint hint

Mike February 15, 2010 at 7:43 pm

What’s the best way to get a hold of some? Via the email on your site?

Michael Whyte February 16, 2010 at 12:29 pm

Hey thanks for your interest in our coffee. It really means a lot to us. Yeah, the best way to order our beans, for now, is by email.

Do You Guys Roast Coffee As Well Or Just Sell Green? I’m A Nano Roaster I Normally Buy N 10lb Lots Or Smaller, I’d Definitely Be Interested In Purchasing Some From Ur Farm. I Have A Lil Barron Hall Estate Left, I’m Curious To Know The Difference N The Taste Profiles.

Michael Whyte February 16, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Thanks for the interest in our coffee. We sell roasted as well as a green beans. Our coffee has all the attributes that Blue Mountain Coffee is famous for…the mild flavor, strong aroma, natural sweetness, lack of bitterness and full body (mouth feel). The estate coffees, however, do not consistently deliver these properties. This is so because they get their beans from a number of farmers, and not all farmers are as dedicated to their calling as we are. Thanks again for your interest.

I haven’t tried this coffee from C&C, but had some Jablum Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee back in December. It was very good. From your review of the C&C Jamaican Blue Mountain, I’d say the Jablum had a very similar character. Until trying it, I was very skeptical of the high price in the US for Jamaican Blue Mountain. It’s priced too high for daily drinking, but certainly could be worth it for special occasions or as a treat.

Mike February 5, 2010 at 10:15 am

I’m always skeptical about the “elite” coffees and I think I judge them by a higher standard because of that. This was one of the few that really surpassed my expectations. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the Jablum.

Extreme John February 5, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Wow the coveted 4.5 cups for this bad boy, I was going to comment on the packaging then decided I should probably avoid doing that with my big mouth :)

This will be added to the “to buy” list.

I’m always on the lookout for a good cup of joe and this sounds wonderful.

Long Beach Bars February 8, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Just reading your article makes me really want to try the Jamaican coffee. It sounds so good. I usually do not care what type of coffee I drink but hearing you describe that coffee makes me want to try.

Jealous… This JBM sounds VERY nice. I have only been sent a few nasty ‘shop floor sweepings’ in the past. It’s amazing how even 100% JBM can be picked and roasted so differently. The C&C brew sounds impressive.
I’m in the proccess of reviewing a Farm grown Kona Peaberry at the mo… will be a hard ship to beat I gotta say.

Great review as always Mike, Enjoy your day!

Yep, the price sounds about right. That’s what I have paid for it in the past from another coffee roaster. Well worth the cost though in my opinion.
