Joe Pokes – The Coffee Toothpicks

I’ve come across some rather unique coffee products. A lot of them weren’t worth mentioning. However, there have been a few that really impressed me. It wasn’t too long ago that I spotted the coffee beans ice cube tray. Last year, I reviewed a drink that was half coffee and half pomegranate fruit called POMx Iced Coffee. However, I found something that I think tops it all. It’s called Joe Pokes.

Joe Pokes are coffee flavored toothpicks with an added caffeine burst. When I opened the box and took a look at these coffee toothpicks, I wasn’t sure what I had gotten myself into. However, after chewing on a few, I was pleasantly surprised.

The Joe Pokes will probably never replace my five cup a day coffee habit, however they impressed me with how well they taste. They actually taste like coffee. The first couple of minutes, it’s a bold, almost dark roast taste mixed with hints of sugar. As I chewed on it some more, a more mellow, relaxing coffee flavor came out.

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the Joe Pokes are infused with caffeine. After chewing on a few back to back, I could’ve sworn that I had a little bit of a caffeine buzz. Jeff Mazurek, the creator of Joe Pokes says that he knows that it’s just a niche item, but says hikers have said they like the coffee toothpicks for when they can’t brew coffee on the trail. The website mentions that it’s good for tired truckers and sleepy drivers.

Overall, I was surprised by the Joe Pokes. The flavor was fairly accurate and the caffeine earned it some bonus points. It’s definitely one of those things that you have to try for yourself if you’re a true coffee geek like myself.
