The Drink: Kickapoo Coffee Organic Guatemala
Type: Whole Bean Single Origin Fair Trade
Overall Rating: Four Out Of Five Coffee Mugs

Canned coffee reminds me of generic mass produced grocery store coffees that are stale and lifeless. However, the Organic Guatemala coffee that I sampled from Kickapoo Coffee is anything but stale and lifeless.

As soon as I took off the lid and peeled off the vacuum seal off of this can, I knew that this wasn’t like any other canned coffee that I’ve tried. The beans looked fresh and a delicious aroma greeted me.

It had an eye opening aroma, that reminded me some of the other coffees that I’ve had from Guatemala but still stood out from anything that I’ve ever tried from there or anywhere in the world. The aroma was a mix of spicy and floral, with hints of a thick honey straight out of a beehive.

The taste was just as unique. On the front end it was smooth and fruity. Towards the end of the slip it started to taste slightly darker. There was a flavor that reminded me of the just ripe blackberries and another flavor that was like Vermont maple syrup. I also picked up hints of honey and citrus. As it cooled down, I was able to pick up a distinctive milk chocolate taste.

The after taste was smooth and relaxing. As far as the weight of the body, it was in between.

As an added bonus, Kickapoo coffee works strictly with fair trade cooperatives.

The price is $10.75 for 12 ounces. I wouldn’t mind drinking this in the morning, but it was the perfect afternoon coffee.

It was difficult to identify all of the smells and flavors at first, but I really enjoyed drinking this coffee. It earns an all star four out of five rating. This is one coffee in a can that I would recommend that everyone try.

Thanks to the online coffee shop, ROASTe, I got to try this and another coffee from Kickapoo that I’ll be reviewing very soon.

Have you ever had good coffee out of a can?

Kickapoo was definitely some great coffee. I can’t wait to try the second coffee they sent me.

Mike;
the offenders i have had from a can were
either burned or flavored. the more modest roasts and strictly coffees
seem to survive the journey a lot better.

except for the most ficky coffee lovers, a good vacuum pack does the job if
you are away from your main fresh supply. that seems to apply
more to whole beans and trails off to ground coffee.
