Loving’ That Coffee

I became a grandmother again this week and after spending the day at the hospital, I went to the local pancake house…you know one of those places with a “never empty” coffee pot and I ate pancakes while managing to empty two pots of coffee. Whew! After the coffee in the hospital waiting room and the hospital cafeteria, I was ready for some coffee that would be kind to my tongue and the coffee at the pancake house did not disappoint.

It was a medium blend coffee that made my taste buds stand up and pay attention. I enjoyed drinking the well brewed coffee as I cherished the notion that I had played a small part in bringing a new life into this world.

This is my son and daughter in law’s fourth child and she promises to be a humdinger, just like the two pots of coffee I polished off at the pancake place. I mused about how many pots of coffee I have consumed during special and critical events in my life.

I can tell you that hospital coffee is rarely good even if they have a Starbucks at the facility. Maybe the circumstances change the taste of the coffee but I was one happy grannie this week and the coffee was still bad, bless those volunteers little hearts. They brew up coffee all day long and we drink it because we find ourselves needing to do something with ourselves as we wait for news good or bad but it is always a pleasure for the news to be good and to be able to go somewhere, anywhere…that serves a decent cuppa’ joe.

This week I didn’t get my preferred cherry pie with my coffee but the pancakes were tasty and who can argue with tasty hot cakes and delicious coffee, especially when celebrating a grandbaby!

Ciao!

Congratulations on the new member of your family! Great article and I have to agree about hospital coffee, blehh.

Angela, thank you for your note. I appreciate it. Since writing this post I have been subjected to hospital coffee in another surgery waiting room. I must be acquiring a fortitude of steel! I survived it too.

I hope everyone’s ok. Just add lots of cream and sugar and maybe that will make it better.

our local hospital has a coffee deli kiosk at the entrance which makes
a pretty decent small brew pot coffee for the medical staff and visitors.
the only downside is that they close after normal business hours.
then…you are on your own with what the nurses have in their
floor kitchens… (or did you remember to bring VIA along?)

i think the time that coffee spends in the pot
heating is the main reason so many of us ‘blehh’ it.

    congrats on the new arrival.

Howard, thank you for your note. I did not bring VIA along because I was too busy with old grandchildren and my camera. I just took my chances with the brew at the hospital.

BTW, some pots were fresh brewed and they still were not good. I think it is the coffee the hospital uses.

      Cheers,

      Ardee-ann

Congrats on the new addition! I would have thought that the coffee in the hospitals would have been of at least decent quality because of the long and late hours the nurses and doctors work?
