N.O. Brew Review

by Mike on December 21, 2009 in Coffee Reviews

The Drink: N.O. Brew – Traditional
Type: Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate In A Bottle
Overall Rating: 3.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Cups

Paying $5 for drinks at Starbucks is getting old. Making your own lattes at home is great if you have the time and an espresso machine. A company in New Orleans came up with N.O. Brew, a cheaper and easier alternative.

I really liked the concept, but I wasn’t sure if I would like the taste. When it arrived at my door, I couldn’t wait to twist off the cap and give it a shot.

It’s extremely easy to make. For iced coffee, just add 1 part coffee and two parts water over ice. For hot coffee, just do the same and heat instead of adding ice cubes. Switch out the water for milk to make lattes. Add sugar or creamer if you want, but I enjoyed the taste as is.

It’s not some crazy concoction either. It’s just coffee, chicory and filtered water.

N.O. Brew has a mild nutty aroma. The chicory really came through in the flavor and it tasted like some of the New Orleans coffees that I’ve sampled this year. It was also extremely smooth, which comes from the cold-brew method that they use to make it.

Overall, I liked the coffee, but I loved the lattes. It definitely made better lattes than what I’ve bought in many coffee shops.

I wouldn’t say that it would replace an espresso machine, but it’s a great alternative for people that don’t have an espresso machine or are away from home and want a mouth watering coffee drink.

A bottle of the N.O. Brew only costs $5.50, the price of one drink at Starbucks. The single bottle makes 13 drinks. That’s less than 43 cents a drink, plus whatever the milk, sugar or creamer costs if you use any.

I was apprehensive about this one, I wondered what I had gotten myself into when I agreed to review it. However, I had nothing to worry about it. It was an easy 3.5 out of 5. They sent me their three other flavors to review and I can’t wait to dive into those soon.

For the record: N.O. Brew sent me four bottles of their product for review purposes. They didn’t tell me how to write the review and all of the opinions are mine.

My pleasure. I think with your high expectations on coffee tastes, this is the cold brew concentrate that you’d like.

Happy Holidays to you too! Hopefully, I don’t freeze.

This looks perfect for me. I almost never drink hot coffee and I have at least one cup of coffee a day. This looks perfect for whipping up a quick iced latte. I’d probably go for the non-flavored ones and just add my own flavored syrup.

Neera, It’s perfect when you want a quick drink and don’t want something plain. I added in flavor syrup to a couple of mine and it was delicious.

Home espresso: Moka Bialetti stove top espresso pot. I have 3! In different sizes!

But I might just have to try this.

Although I would probably just drink the bottle straight up.

I just got my first moka pot not too long ago. I’m already addicted!

I’m the same way, I tried a straight shot, it was a little over powering. Just to warn you.
