Nescafe Taste’s Choice Review

Nescafe Tasters ChoiceThe Drink: Nescafe Taste’s Choice
Type: Instant Coffee
Overall Rating: See Individual Coffees Below

I know some of you die hard coffee snobs may find this shocking, some of you might even be personally offended, but I really like the Nescafe Taster’s Choice. There’s times when you just can’t get fresh coffee and when I’m in in a dangerous situation like that, the Taster’s Choice is what I want.

I’ll admit that I didn’t have high hopes for this instant coffee, I kept picturing the old glass jars of stale, almost undrinkable instant coffee that my grandmother kept in her cabinets, but I have to admit that Taster’s Choice impressed me. It’s better than Starbucks VIA, plus it costs a whole lot less.

Before the coffee snobs start screaming, nothing will ever replace fresh coffee. The Nescafe Taster’s Choice lacked some of the deep intricacies that come from freshly ground beans, but there were points where I was thinking that it’s probably better than some regular coffees that I’ve tasted.

Have you tried the Nescafe Taster’s Choice? In the comments on the giveaway post, the feelings were that it was everything from undrinkable to saying that it was a major step above the Starbucks VIA. What’s your opinion?

100 % Colombian

This was the first packet that I tried. I was nervous about it, but it won me over. It smells like real coffee. It had a bright, acidic taste with hints of cinnamon. This is the one that had me thinking that it’s better than some regular coffees. The main differences is that the body is a lot lighter and the taste seems to be slightly cut off.

I wouldn’t rate it on the same scale as regular coffees, but if I was looking for an instant coffee, I would give it a 3.75 out of 5.

Gourmet Roast

This one smelled like an Ethopian coffee, mixed with the spices of beans from South America. It had a delicious nutty taste, but the flavor did feel muted. Plus it had a slightly oily feel to it on my tongue. 3.25 Out Of 5.

Original

I liked the cinnamon-chocolate aroma of this one a lot, but overall it was my least favorite. It was drinkable, but there wasn’t really much to the taste. I just had this feeling that it wasn’t sitting well on my tongue. 2.5 Out Of 5.

Vanilla

It had a strong, but pleasant smelling vanilla aroma. The vanilla taste was right on, but it could’ve been a little sweeter to complement the vanilla flavor and more of a coffee flavor. 3.25 Out Of 5.

Hazelnut

The aroma on the hazelnut was sweet and relaxing to my nose. However, the flavor was just okay, and I’d even goes as far as to say it tasted like some teas I’ve tried. 3.25 Out Of 5.

Decaf

The Decaf smelled similar to the gourmet, it had a rich, full of coffee flavor. The taste was similar also, but it just tasted off to me and I think it was more than that it was missing the caffeine.

And The Winners Are!

Along with sending me samples to review, Nescafe generously offered to giveaway three sample packs and a coffee mug to some lucky Daily Shot Of Coffee readers.

Thank you to everyone that entered! Today, I compiled the list of all of the entries (and there were a lot) on a spreadsheet. Then using Random.Org, I came up with these three numbers…

Well-written post. I recently tried the sample pack as well and I have to agree that nothing will ever replace a real cup of joe. But on te other hand, when you’re desparate, anything will do. I wouldn’t go out and buy this probably, but I wouldn’t turn it down either.

who are you and what have you done with the Mike that practically refuses to drink a cup of coffee unless he grinds the beans 2seconds before brewing? :)

I’ll admit that there are times when Instant Coffee serves a purpose.

My dad drinks this coffee exclusively. I agree that for instant coffee it’s okay. I’ve tried Starbucks Via too and I have to say that the product is about 99% marketing. Starbucks has some marketing genius. They have convinced people that instant coffee is worth $1 a cup.

Isn’t it even more than just a dollar a cup? You’re right, they are really good when it comes to marketing and not just the VIA.

I’ve never actually bought it. I thought I remember seeing a four-pack for about four dollars. Maybe that was an introductory price.

I should’ve looked at the price last night when I stopped by Starbucks, either way it’s more expensive.
