Papua New Guinea from Higher Ground Review

Higher Ground Papa New GuineaThe Drink: Papua New Guinea from Higher Ground
Type: Whole Bean Dark Roast
Overall Rating: Four Out Of Five Coffee Cups

Several coffee bloggers and dozens of the regular Daily Shot Of Coffee readers tried to talk me into drinking more dark roasts coffee, but I’ve given most darker roasts a lukewarm reception. There were some that were above average, but for the most part I thought they were just roasting away all of the flavor and caffeine out of a coffee bean.

I was drinking the wrong dark roasts! I finally found a dark roast coffee that I don’t just like, I love it. It’s the Papua New Guinea from Higher Ground.

As soon as I opened up the bag, I just had a feeling that this was going to be a good coffee. The beans were dark roasted, but they didn’t look burnt.

After I brewed the Papa New Guinea, and poured it, my nose approved the scent coming floating from the coffee cup. The aroma was bright and full of scents including a sweet hint of apples.

The taste had only hints of a dark roast, mixed with a light apple flavor and a slightly white wine-like taste.

The after taste was delicious. The sip finished off with a mellow citrus hint.

It had the smoothest feel of any dark roast coffee that I’ve had.

It scores extra points for being organically ground and Fair Trade Certified.

Can you tell I was excited about this coffee? I’m more of a medium and light roast coffee drinker, but this is the one dark roast coffee that I could drink every day. I’d recommend it to my friends that are nervous about pouring dark roasts into their cup. I’d even recommend it to my friends that bury the taste of their coffee in sugar and cream.

Plus, it’s only $8.99 for a 12 ounce bag from the Higher Ground website or from Go Coffee Go.

Overall, it’s a winner. It’s an easy four out of five coffee cup rating.

Are there any other dark roasts that you think I should try?

Disclosure time. This coffee was bought via a free gift card provided by Go Coffee Go. Neither company influenced my opinions on this coffee, because believe me if it was a dark roast that I didn’t like, I would let you know.

Cool – good deal too. I just reviewed a 100% organic free trade coffee but it was 10.95 per 12oz. – I think I’ll have to make a purchase of this fine stuff! I love dark roast coffees!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I had no idea that you review coffees over there too. I think you’ll see me at your blog shortly.
