Poll: Do You Read The Daily Shot Of Coffee Newsletter?
This week’s question is “Do You Read The Daily Shot Of Coffee Newsletter?”
Every Thursday, I send out a little newsletter that’s a wrap up of that week’s posts. You can sign up, by entering your name and email into the maroon(ish) colored box on the top right side. You’ll also get a free eBook with coffee shop recipes. Don’t worry, it’s spam free.
The newsletter is nothing fancy, but after seeing some really cool newsletters from some of other sites, I’m working on ways to improve it.
So if you do read the newsletter, what do you think about it? How would you improve it?
If you don’t read it, why not?
I will say if you don’t read it, there’s something really good that you might be missing out on this week. I can’t go into all the details yet because it’s not finalized, but assuming it all works out, you’re going to want to be a newsletter subscriber.
Last week’s poll question was “What Type Of Coffee Filter Do You Use?”
At some point in the new future, I’m going to a post on all of the different coffee filters, what’s the benefits of each type and what’s the drawbacks.
52% answered paper filters. That’s my answer most of the time, but I’m going to start experimenting with some other options.
33% said (non-bleached) paper filters.
24% use a permanent filter.
14% use a permanent gold tone filter.
No one answered that they use a cloth filter.

When I actually use my drip machine, I use unbleached paper. I know fellow coffee purists are big on using nonchlorinated water for a better tasting coffee…so the next step is to ditch the bleached white paper filters
I’ve been using them so long I can’t remember if there’s a taste difference between the two (I’m sure plenty would tell you yes), but I cut them out initially to use less “toxic” things with unnecessary chemicals – I don’t want to drink bleach residuals in my morning joe. My prior coffeemaker (Gevalia) I actually used a gold tone permanent filter, which I really liked. I didn’t get funky tastes and it was easy to wash – no more running out of filters!

I use non-bleached, but I also have the option of permanent so I voted for the one I use the most which is non-bleached

Although I have not used my drip machine for about 8 months, I use a gold permanent filter. I am a opponent of using paper filters, because I dig the oils…that’s where the taste is

We use a permanent. There’s only one thing worse than waking up in the morning and realizing you’ve run out of filters. I can’t notice any difference between the permanent, bleached, or unbleached paper as far as affecting the coffee’s flavor.

I’m going to take a guess here and say that we use a permanent filter.

In response to your question about the newsletter, I voted yes I do, but the reality is that I only read it sometimes. If I’ve been keeping up reading your blog I don’t read it. If I’ve missed a bunch of posts I read the newsletter. Either way I like getting it in my inbox.
.-= Rose´s last blog ..The Object of My Cathexsis: Bat For Lashes =-.
I’m glad to hear you like getting it in your mailbox. I’m thinking I might have to do something to make it worth reading, even if your up to date on the blog. What that is…I’m not so sure yet.
free coffee?
There might be some free coffee coming up…how did you know?
I don’t consider myself a “purist” I just love coffee! I use a paper filter, and I didn’t realize I wasn’t subscribed to your blog until today!
.-= Keith´s last blog ..Pop Ups On Your Blog =-.
Glad to see you subscribed!
I’m right there with you, as long as it’s coffee…it’s good in my books….ok well that’s not always true, there have been some exceptions.
Just signed up for the newsletter.
I mainly use paper filters, mainly because I can then throw my used coffee grounds into my composter.
Thanks for signing up Ed.
Glad to hear your composting your older grounds. I wish more people would do that.
I am strictly a NO NEWSLETTER kind of guy, if one even slips into my inbox I unsubscribe instantly. Using a feed reader is my main excuse for this.
Bad move! Missed out on free coffee today! So much more in the newsletter that you don’t get from an RSS Feed.
I read it sometimes…
Did you get your free coffee?
Yes I read the newsletter, though if if I had caught a particular posting earlier I skip that(no need to reread it…usually
). And I confess, sometimes I just skim the interesting posts. But like Rose, I do enjoy getting it-there’s good reading most of the time!
Either way, thanks for taking the time to read the newsletter and more importantly reading the posts!
