I like the idea of reusing them in a compost heap or adding them directly to my plants, but most of the time the the only thing that I’m thinking about while I make my coffee is how good it’s going to taste. It’s something I need to start working on!

What about you? Do you have anything that you do with your coffee grounds or do you recycle them? If so, what do you use them for?

Last week’s poll was “What Do You Use To Make Your Coffee?

It looks like I’m in the same boat as most people, making our coffee several different ways.

Overall, a little more than half of you said that you make your coffee in a drip coffee maker.

  1. It’s funny that you posted this. I was thinking of doing a post about what you do with your coffee grinds. haha

I throw mine out in the trash, but it’s probably better to use them in the yard for plants.

We never throw our coffee grounds in the trash. Why waste good stuff? We compost a lot – fruit and vegetable scraps AND coffee grounds – they all eventually go back into our backyard soil.

Awww you linked me, thank you Mike :)

Now in regards to this week’s poll, I voted but honestly my option wasn’t there. I throw them into my garbage disposal :)

The closest term for what I do with them would be mulching. I haven’t started a warm weather garden yet, so I’m just keeping the used grounds in a bucket. Once I get my vegetables started I’ll use them as a mulch around the plants. When we used to use paper filters we would put those into the compost bin with the grounds.

To be honest I toss them out some mornings and other times save them for our compost pile. It depends how alert I am at the time. Usually my mind is on what I’m making for breakfast so my hands might toss the grounds out automatically but not on purpose. LOL So I must be 50/50 on this answer. Everyone have a great weekend!

  6. Well Lets See I Always Recycle My Grounds, I Have An Organic Garden That Loves The Extra Nitrogen, Aside From That My Wife Uses It To Make Soaps With, Actually I Need To Send You A Bar ;) . The Most Important Thing Is Depending On My Mood Or If I’m Running Low On Coffee I Will Often Brew A Second 1/2 Pot With The Same Ground, Some May Argue, But If The Grounds R Right It Is Possible.

Our coffee grounds from home go into the composting/yard waste bin that gets picked up by the city. I didn’t realize so many people put grounds into trash. Thank you for the interesting question Mike.

I don’t brew enough coffee at home (I’m a Coffee Beanery junkie) so I buy Coffee Beanery’s Green Thumb blend to put on my garden. My flowers ast year were HUGE and I’m looking forward to trying it out on my vegatable garden this year.
