Poll: Pick Your Roast?

Coffee Beans

This week’s poll is “Pick Your Roast?”

What’s your first choice? Dark, medium or light roast?

I go back and forth. I like the light roasts because they tend to pack in a lot of flavor, but for every day drinking I’d rather have a medium roast. I’ve had a handful of good dark roasts, but I’ve had way too many that just tasted over roasted and burnt.

Last week’s question was “What’s Your Favorite Thing About Coffee?

The whole experience from start to finish is ritual-like.

The experience of taste, dark rich, the smell, even how it looks in the cup! It satisfies, it’s the thing I first want in the morning, and it’s a companion through most of the day. Second, I honestly love how it makes me feel, awake, alive, ready, alert, good mood, primed to take on the day. Sometimes a small cup in the evening at peaceful moments. It’s not just the caffeine, it’s the coffee itself, the drinking, the holding. there’s nothing quite like it. I’m obviously hooked, and that’s the way I like it…

Nothing does more for my mood then the smell of coffee in the morning. I let the aroma sweep around me like a blanket, covering me with it’s luxury, it’s completely satisfying.

I like the fact it wakes me up and keeps me company throughout the day. I also like the social aspect that surrounds coffee.

I’ll go with dark/French roast hands down :) I don’t believe I’ve ever tried any light roasts, so that’s on my coffee agenda. Medium roasts are an obvious second, but I’ve had a few that just taste too…insipid. I like strong coffee that has some heft :)

I used to be hardcore darker-the-better, but over time my tastes have matured or mellowed; call it what you will. I find medium roasts to be the perfect balance of drinkability, flavor, complexity and punch.

Probably my most important criteria is that it doesn’t come from Starbucks. I’m not jumping on the starbucks-is-the-devil bandwagon, I just don’t like that over-roasted is their signature.

Devon – I like my coffee with some “heft” from time to time, but I really haven’t had many dark roasts that hit my tongue, just right. Not going to stop me from trying more dark roasts.

Allen – I really haven’t tried any of the actual Starbucks coffee for a while, when I got there I get the espresso drinks, I may need to go try some…for review purposes. I remember not being a fan, but it’s been so long, it wouldn’t hurt to have a refresher course…my taste buds are always changing.
