Poll: Should I End My Dunkin Donuts Boycott?

This week’s question is “Should I End My Dunkin Donuts Boycott?”

After receiving some very bad customer service in April, I haven’t been back to Dunkin Donuts since. I wrote about it in the post America Doesn’t Run On Dunkin. It was the experience that pushed me over the ledge after many disappointing trips to Dunkin Donuts. It seemed that they didn’t want my money, I decided to stop buying my coffee and breakfast there.

Almost two months later, I’m ready to give them another chance. Maybe, I’ve just had some bad luck with a few bad apple employees. Plus, I might, sort of miss their sausage egg and cheese on a crossiant sandwiches.

Last week’s question was “How Do You Buy Your Coffee?”

Sixty-nine percent responded that they buy whole beans. All week long this answer just dominated the other two. At no point was it even close.

Thirty-eight percent said they buy ground coffee. I can’t blame you, there’s definitely those mornings when I’m feeling lazy and like the ease of ground coffee. But if you haven’t tried coffee made from whole beans, you have to get a grinder and try it today.

But zero people voted for green beans. I knew that there wouldn’t be a lot of people who buy green beans, but I thought there would be at least a couple of votes.

My wife and I felt the same about McDonalds 2 1/2 years ago now. After several months there was no desire to eat there again and we have always found healthier alternatives.

Give it at least another month before deciding, and if you get a bad experience then consider making it permanent.

I buy green beans! I was just too dumb to notice that I could pick more than one option.

Oh, and on the DD question – I’m always for giving someone another chance. Of course, up here in New England where DD’s are more pervasive than Starbucks, I have the choice of taking my business to another Dunkins, and have done that in the past when one store consistently disappoints with service. Also, coffee shop staff turnover is pretty high in fast food type chains – the staff that gave you poor service may well have been replaced.

You should keep the boycott for flavor purposes alone. A donut shop masquerading as a quality coffee cafe? Please. Home Roast!

I’m really liking the response so far. I can’t disagree with anything that has been said so far and if this is any indication of what the results are going to be like this week, it should be interesting.

I said yes keep boycotting, and while you’re at it quit McDonalds too. It turns out I don’t feel very deprived not eating at either of these chains. And my own coffee beats theirs any time of the day.

Time to forgive the D-squared, Mike — it’s the official coffee of the new Yankee Stadium, after all. The free Turbo Shot for iced coffee deal won’t last much longer. Speaking of which, they don’t have the DD promotional posters with Dustin Pedroia slaying the pinstriped giant at the Stadium, do they??

Rose – For a while I didn’t eat any fast food. It’s probably a good habit to get into again.

Alex – LOL, no for some reason there’s no promotional posters of Dustin Pedroia in Yankee stadium. I just can’t figure out why.

Mike I think you hold strong, there’s no need to return now.

I drove past two earlier today, didn’t even think about stopping.

I’m of the mind that . . . if you’re driving and you want a coffee, any place that hasn’t had coffee sitting on the burner for hours will do. If you want to avoid fast coffee on principal, and just coffee-snob it all the way then go for it. But a place that makes coffee you enjoy . . . well, I think the boycott is silly. But then, I’m not generally one to boycott an entire franchise based on the actions of a minimum wage employee. So yes, since you asked: I say the boycott is silly.

If it were just the part time employees, I think I would be over it by now, however, when it’s the franchise owners and managers, it changes things for me at least. I expect them to really provide excellent customer service every time. That being said, I totally agree the boycott is silly because chances are the employees and maybe even the manager who was there the last time I was are long gone by now.
