This week’s poll question is What Do You Put Into Your Coffee?
I’m a reformed cream and sugar addict. I used to put so much cream and sugar into my cup, that there really wasn’t much room for coffee. Luckily, along the way I discovered that with quality coffee, I didn’t need to hide the taste. I now drink black coffee more than ninety percent and it really turned drinking coffee into an enjoyable experience.
Is there anything else that you put into your coffee?
Last week’s poll was What Do You Like Best About Daily Shot Of Coffee?
I really appreciate the feed back from everyone that voted and left comments. I want to make this best possible blog and something that everyone enjoys visiting. If you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to leave a comment below or use the contact link above.
For the first time ever, there was a four way tie, all with 23% of the vote.
- Coffee Reviews
- Coffee Recipes
- All Of The Above
- Other
I really think that people just vote other to make me wonder about what they were thinking. I appreciate every vote, but please share with me what you were thinking when you choose other. Unless of course, by choosing other, it was your way of saying you don’t like the blog. You don’t have to share that with me, if that’s what you were thinking.
In last place were How To Articles with just eight percent of the vote. I’ll still include them as I learn more about how to make a better cup of coffee, but your voice has been heard.

One thing that I got turned on to recently was giving my coffee a kick in the brewing process. In decent drip coffee maker, put a thin layer of finely ground cayenne pepper on top of the coffee grounds. It gives a nice kick that’s not too hot but really works with the coffee flavor.
That’s a very interesting idea. I’m definitely going to try that!
QOTW: When I am not doing coffee reviews (black & french pressed) I will brew my coffee drip, sometimes black & sometimes with a touch of cream to cool it down a bit.
Interesting results on your poll. I did a similar poll on my site recently. http://tr.im/pafl – The results were somewhat similar.
You Rock!

The results are very similar on the two polls. Some of it confirmed what I was thinking, but I also learned a lot about what people want.
Thanks! You and your blog also rock!
I’m sure people would not classify me as a real coffee drinker because I put a bit of sugar and amaretto in my coffee. I have not learned how to drink it black and probably never will. I sure having a high quality blend of coffee makes a big difference and maybe that’s why I’m having to disguise it. Thanks for the post!

If it’s a fresh-roasted coffee I usually drink it black, but if I am in a hurry to drink it (and need the caffeine), I have to add a bit of cream/milk.
Our own iced coffee I always drink black-anything else would be ruining it. =)
These days, I drink about 90% of my coffee black. When I’m drinking the good stuff, especially if it’s something I’m trying for the first time, I really want to taste it straight-up, with no interference. For a long time, I drank it black with sugar. I rarely have it with cream or milk unless it’s iced — but I can’t say never. Some chain-store coffee tastes good and dessert-y with cream and sugar, but it’s apples and oranges comparing it with real premium-level coffee. Bottom line: I prefer it black, but if you screw up my order, I’m not gonna be rude and refuse it.
Eddie – I’d classify you as a coffee drinker, but then again I’m not your average coffee blogger. However, nothing beats a quality cup of coffee black.
Tara – With iced coffee, I usually add sugar and cream. Maybe, I’m not drinking the right coffee.
Alex – That’s a good way to put how some of those chain stores taste – dessert-y.
Well put Alex!
Maybe Mike, but some just prefer the creamier taste & texture for iced coffee. I like to think you haven’t tried the freshest coffee yet, however. =)
Here’s a question for you, though. When you add sugar to iced coffee, do you go with regular (and end up with the granules at the bottom) or for the liquid sugar? We make the liquid stuff at our shop, but I have yet to try it out.
Tara – I think I’m putting in a order later today for what I’m hoping will be some really good coffee.
I put sugar into hot coffee, stirring it then so that it saturates into the coffee. Then I let it cool in the fridge for a little while before adding the ice. It’s a bit of a process, but it’s the best way I’ve found to make iced coffee.
Very interesting method! I couldn’t handle the wait…I need instant coffee gratification!
Usually, I have a regular coffee while it’s cooling down, so I suppose in the grand scheme of things, it’s not really efficient, but it does taste so good.
