My favorite thing about coffee overall would have to be the initial taste of it when it hits my tongue. I don't care for the after taste that much, but than again I also love the smell of fresh coffee brewing.

The absolute best thing about coffee for me is the routine of making and drinking it in the morning. Getting up, boiling the kettle, the whole french press ritual, and in the end, having a delicious cup of joe to start my day.

Well, I guess my favorite thing about coffee is the taste obviously, but more than that. Every brew, roast, blend, etc. offers a unique flavor...the possibilities are endless!

hmmm...Coffee...how do I love thee, let me count the ways..

Actually I love the aroma. With all of the old wood in our house the combination of fresh coffee and bread baking, old wood and the fresh breeze from outside makes it smell like a 19th century Mercantile. I love that combination of scents. Next..I guess it would have to be that Marc makes the coffee and brings it to me in bed. Has every morning except when he was really sick. If he isn't here I don't drink it. I am that spoiled and I love it. Last? The absolute power coffee has to make your relax, reflect, and get a second wind all at the same time.

I like the fact it wakes me up and keeps me company throughout the day. I also like the social aspect that surrounds coffee. Going out to coffee or having someone over for coffee means I am probably going to talk and socially connect. Having coffee after dinner is a time to relax and enjoy each others company. Coffee makes friends. I hate when I say to someone "let's go out for coffee," and they respond, "I don't drink coffee." Even if you don't drink coffee one should pretend like they do for the social aspect, they can always order something else.

Nothing does more for my mood then the smell of coffee in the morning. I let the aroma sweep around me like a blanket, covering me with it's luxury, it's completely satisfying. I like to have my coffee fast, hot, and now now now! I like it straight with a little frothy milk to keep the boldness from being overwhelming. I can drink it slow and savor the richness of it anytime, but in the morning you just got to bring it! I've often said that if I could hold the beans in my mouth, sip a cup of hot water, and follow with a foamy milk chaser, I would drink it that way, but I can't manage all that while I'm driving my manual transmission in the morning commute! It might be kinda fun to try sometime.

Mike, two answers: The experience of taste, dark rich, the smell, even how it looks in the cup! It satisfies, it's the thing I first want in the morning, and it's a companion through most of the day. Second, I honestly love how it makes me feel, awake, alive, ready, alert, good mood, primed to take on the day. Sometimes a small cup in the evening at peaceful moments. It's not just the caffeine, it's the coffee itself, the drinking, the holding. there's nothing quite like it. I'm obviously hooked, and that's the way I like it...

Wow! I'm very impressed with your answer. I've been going back and forth, debating my answer since I came up with the idea for this post and still couldn't come up with one definite answer yet.

Wow it's tough to pinpoint what I love about coffee...definitely the taste. The earthy, dark, smooth-yet-bitter nuttiness just does something for me. I'm not purist enough yet to drink it black (plus, it screws up the whiteness of your teeth :)) - I only drink it with some cream or heated milk. Absolutely no sugar, it ruins the flavor. Other than the taste, it's the smell, and the time I take out of the day to brew it, drink it, and savor it.

The whole experience from start to finish is ritual-like. Ever since I found an old-fashioned manual stove-top drip pot, I haven't touched my $100 Krups automatic coffeemaker. I found it on ebay for $10 and it makes the best coffee I have ever had. You have to boil the water first in a pan/pot, or tea kettle like I do, then pour over the grounds in the the top portion of the pot, slowly, and it drips down into the pitcher-like pot beneath the metal mesh filter. It's like, the water and the coffee grounds make some magic in the old-time pot and birth a delicious coffee-baby that is better than anything else. Consequently, my cappuccino/latte maker is also a stove-top deal and I think it makes a superior cappuccino as well. It's a Bialetti Muka Express. It's kinda like a stove-top percolater, you fill the bottom chamber with water, which boils and goes up through the metal filter with espresso, and the brew gets pulled into the top chamber filled with milk, where it then froths for you, all in 2-3 minutes. It was 90 bucks, and worth every freaking penny.
