This week’s question is “When Do You Make Your Coffee?”
I think there’s two schools of thought:
The Night Before
People like me who aren’t awake enough to do anything more than press a button to turn on their coffee makers in the morning. Or, they have a programmable coffee maker so that by the time they climb out of bed, hot coffee is waiting for them. Plus, I have to admit that using the coffee grinder first thing in the morning is really loud and annoying.
That Morning
Then there’s people who think anything else than grinding the coffee beans and making your pot of coffee first thing in the morning is a sin. There’s no getting around the fact that the grounds lose their flavor sitting the coffee maker over night.
I’m kind of caught in the middle, I like the fresh coffee in the morning, but I’m also thinking about buying a programmable coffee maker.
What’s your thought on it?
Last week’s poll question was “What Do You Put In Your Coffee?”
The overwhelming majority of people voted “Nothing, I like it black.” That choice received 53% of the vote, including mine. I started drinking black coffee this year and I haven’t looked back since then. Nothing beats a delicious cup of black coffee and all of the flavors that go with it. The only time I use cream or sugar now is to hide the taste of bad coffee that I’m occasionally forced to suffer through.
Even thought, I had a typo that said Coffee or Cream (I know it was shocking that I made a typo) instead of Milk or Cream, it received 39% of the vote.
Sugar only received one vote, but I should note that sugar had more votes, but last Tuesday there were some technical issues with the hosting and some votes were lost, however I don’t think it changed the final outcome.

First thing in the morning, part of routine re: getting up and about. Twitter while it brews, take a break, pour a cup, twitter till it cools a bit, then drink throughout the hour I reserve for coffee, twitter, and “my” time getting the day lined out. Nice to occasionally have a muffin, or something low sugar w/it. Bunn coffee at work is okay, but “coffeed out” by noon. Brew some fresh bunn at 3:00, have one cup, then no more till maybe a small cup in the evening. That’s plenty of coffee for me.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Your tweets are a must read, especially after I found out that you crowd surfed at a Dinosaur Jr concert. For anyone not following you, they can find you at http://twitter.com/carybrans
Your coffee marking patterns are very similar to mine, except I need a little bit more coffee in the afternoon and the evening.
6 AM, 7 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 4 PM – repeat.
PS – Dinosaur JR is the best!
MAS – I don’t think I’m worthy, I think I need to step up my coffee drinking.
My French Presses aren’t programmable, so I make it when I need it. Waiting for the water to boil gives me time to prepare my lunch. I also make it in the evening, but that’s for evening consumption — The prelude to my nightcap.
I don’t know if I could prepare lunch before I have my coffee. I’m barely able to walk over and turn on my computer and TV before that dose of caffeine.
I love mornings . . . I relish, rather than rely on, my morning coffee
I’ve always been a night person, I enjoy working late until the morning. Someday, I’ll start to enjoy mornings…someday.
Hey Mike, I’m a night owl too and wondered if you know your time of birth? I know this is not coffee related but I was just curious. My Mom told me I was born between midnight and 3am and wonder if our body clocks at birth has something to do with wanting to be up and about when others are sawing logs…snoring ..doing their zzzzzz’s. I was checking out these older posts and enjoyed the chatter this morning.
I was born around three our four AM. I think it explains why I like to stay up late, but unfortunately also explains why I wake up way too early.
Glad you’re looking at the older posts. I had totally forgotten about this poll.
