POMx Cafe au Lait – What I’m Drinking

POMx Cafe au Lait

The Drink: POMx Cafe au Lait
Type: Iced Coffee meets Health Drink in a bottle
Overall Rating: Three Out Of Five Coffee Cups

Before my workout today and by workout, I mean watching the New York Yankee’s playoff game, I tried another POMx Iced Coffee. This time it was the Cafe au Lait, I enjoyed it, but I think they were trying a little too hard with the coffee flavor on this one.

The POMx Iced Coffee comes from PomWonderful, a company that makes health conscious drinks with pomegranate. For the Cafe au Lait, they mix in dark Italian-roasted Arabica beans, reduced fat milk and organic sugar cane. The result is a drink that they say is full of anti-oxidants and will give you a healthy buzz. I’m sure it’ll make coffee snobs nervous, but I liked the Chocolate flavor, so I couldn’t wait to try the Cafe au Lait.

When I reviewed the Chocolate flavor, I wrote that it tasted a lot like the Starbucks Double Shot, but after tasting the Cafe Au Lait, I’d say that this flavor is even more similar. The only major difference is a fruity, healthy kick in the POMx.

The Cafe au Lait had a much stronger coffee taste then the Chocolate flavor. It had a bold dark roast taste, mixed in with chocolate milk and hints of fruit. The fruit flavor reminded me of blackberries and raspberries.

The weak point came in the after taste. It had the dark roast taste that I liked, but it was too bitter. It was still drinkable, but it did lose some points.

The POMx Cafe Au Lait is okay, but not great – earning it a three out of five on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale.

So far, if I had to pick just one of the POMx drinks, it would be the Chocolate flavor. While it was a little overall the top like it was a YooHoo drink, it had a higher drinkability. I still have one more flavor to try, the Vanilla, which is sometimes my favorite coffee flavor.

If you want to try it for yourself, you can find POMx Iced Coffee in the produce aisle at the grocery store, or online at http://www.healthybuzzz.com

Lol hmmmmm I might check this out. Seems interesting at least :) I don’t know about you, but I’m not a fan of the Starbucks bottled fraps. Well…I shouldn’t say that because I do enjoy the mint chocolate one they had (do they still make it? Oh man now I made myself want one…). This is a completely different argument but suffice it to say I have serious beef with “reduced fat” milk (I won’t bore you with particulars right now because I could go on forever – it’s a soap box of mine). Naturally, I shun premade drinks (generally speaking) that have skim or low-fat milk. I think it’s an abomination. There I said it.

I dunno. I’d just rather make an iced coffee myself at home ;)

I’ll second the I’d rather make it at home, but on the good I have been known to get the Starbucks bottled fraps. I think if I had the POMx as an option though, I’d pick them.
