POMx Chocolate Iced Coffee – What I’m Drinking

by Mike on September 23, 2009 in Coffee Reviews

The Drink POMx Iced Coffee – Chocolate
Type: Iced Coffee meets Health Drink in a bottle
Overall Rating: 3.25 out of 5 coffee cups

POMx Iced Coffee is pomegranate fruit mixed with coffee, giving it what they call a “healthy buzz” because it’s full of antioxidents (which, I’ve heard are good for you) and it’s fat free. It’s somewhat similar to the cans of Starbucks Double Shot Espressos, but with a healthy twist.

Coffee purists aren’t going to like POMx Iced Coffee, but if you’re the type of person that spends too much time at the gym and are looking for a healthy alternative to mix into your daily coffee habit, it’s something worth checking out.

PomWondeful, the company that makes this coffee and many other pomegranate drinks, sent me three flavors to taste – chocolate, vanilla and Cafe au Lait. My weakness for chocolate took over, so that’s the first one that I grabbed out of my refrigerator today.

When I twisted off the cap of POMx Iced Coffee, a sweet chocolate aroma aroma, mixed with hints of nuts drifted out the bottle.

My fear was that it was going to taste like a bad 7-11 Iced Coffee mixed with a V8, but the taste ranked high on the drinkability scale. It tasted like a chocolate milk, with a coffee kick. There was a fruity tinge to it, which I’m going to have to assume was the pomegranate. I’ve never had pomegranate before, but if that’s what they taste like, sign me up for more.

PomWonderful says the coffee is a dark Italian Roast, but with the chocolate and fruit flavors, the coffee taste was at a minimum.

It’s more healthy than most of the cold coffee drinks that you can find at a gas station or grocery store, but it’s also environmentally friendly. They use only Rain Forest Alliance certified Arabica coffee beans that are shade grown. That’s always a bonus for me.

This drink wasn’t easy to rate. I couldn’t compare it to a regular mocha drink from a coffee shop and I couldn’t compare it to the coffee that I can buy in a can. I wished it had more of a coffee flavor, but overall I liked it and I gave it an above average 3.25 out of 5 rating. I can’t promise that everyone is going to like, but since I currently seem to be on a health kick, I could see myself drinking more these.

If you’re interested, you can find POMx Iced Coffee in the produce aisle at your local grocery store or online at http://www.healthybuzz.com

Thanks for stopping by Patty. It looks like it’s only in limited stores right now, but maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones with it in your grocery store.
