Simmer Down by Marley Coffee
The Drink: Simmer Down by Marley Coffee
Type: Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Today’s adventure takes us to the land of decaffeinated coffee, it’s not an area that I like to venture too very often, but with Simmer Down from Marley Coffee, it was a risk worth taking.
To remove the caffeine, the Marley Coffee uses the Swiss Water method. It’s a process that uses pure water to filter out the caffeine, “without compromising the coffee’s unique origin body, flavor and aroma characteristics.”
I’ve enjoyed the other Marley Coffees, but I had my doubt about this one. I’ve had decaf coffees in the past and they didn’t even compare to regular coffees, but from the first sniff, I knew that this was going to be something different.
Simmer Down actually smells like coffee, it had a pleasing aroma that smelled like cocoa and a spicy mix including cinnamon and mint.
It passed the smell test, but could it pass a taste test?
The answer is yes. It had a rich chocolate and nutty flavor with a smoky taste. It’s a darker roast, but was still very smooth on my tongue.
The Simmer Down bag described a peppery finish and initially I didn’t get that at all. Then as it started to cool down, there it was, a nice addition to complete the overall taste experience.
As an added bonus, the Swiss Water Process is 100% chemical free and certified organic. I know that can be factor for many people, including myself.
The Swiss Water Process removes 99.9% of the caffeine, so it would take eighteen cups of Simmer Down to get the caffeine from a regular cup coffee. I enjoyed drinking it, but not that much.
I think I’m going to stick to caffeinated coffees, I need them to make a functioning human in the morning, but besides the overwhelming urge to take nap, I enjoyed this coffee. It earned a 3.5 out of 5 Daily Shot Of Coffee rating. It surpassed my expectations for a decaf coffee and was an above average tasting coffee in general.
Even though it doesn’t have the caffeine, Simmer Down is the same price as the others, $16.99 a bag. Buy Simmer Down at the Marley Coffee website.
Unfortunately, my journey with the Marley Coffees is almost at an end. I saved what could be the best, One Love, the organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe for last. Stay tuned for it next week.

As I get older and the doc begins to push me towards healthier stuff going with decaf is terrifying, at least based on this review I have a decent option when the time comes.
If you have to go Decaf, this is the one!
