The Drink: Superba
Type: Whole Bean Blend
Overall Rating: 3.75 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
I thought I had seen every kind of coffee packaging out there – I’ve had coffee from all shapes, sizes and colors of bags, even glass jars from Barista On Duty, but nothing like the designer looking box that came with a coffee called Superba. It looks like the kind of box for a high end cologne and their website looked more like it was for a clothing store boutique than coffee. I liked the design, it’s cool, but all that I really are about is quality of the coffee.
This distinguished blend is roasted to a “full city” medium roast profile. It has a perfect balance of richness with deep chocolate qualities, which are slightly paralleled by light, but distinct citrus and earthy notes.
- Description from Superba website
It’s aroma perked my attention. It started off with a roasted nuts flavor, with lime and other citrus scents underneath it. There was a bit of cinnamon and chocolate mixed in too.
The aroma caught my attention, but the taste won me over. Superba had a medium roast flavor that was a mix of a woody, chocolate and earthy flavors. There was the hint of the citrus around the edges and a drop of dark roast flavor.
It had a sharp after taste that got my attention and made me do a double take at my mug.
The coffee was right up there with some of the smoothest coffees that I’ve tasted this year.
In the French Press, it had a full body.
It is on the pricey side, a 12 ounce bag of Superba costs an even $15, but I’ve seen more expensive coffee.
They get bonus points for hand writing on every box the expiration date. The box they sent me to review had a realistic expiration date of July 13. It’s not the optimal one to two weeks after roasting for the freshest coffee, but it’s a lot better than the coffees that have a shelf life of a year before they expire.
The only thing missing was the origin of the beans, there was no information about it on the website other than it was sourced only from the highest quality beans. I’d like a little bit more information than that. I know, I can be picky.
Overall the quality of this coffee overcame the bean’s lack of identity. In other words, who cares where it comes from if it tastes good. This coffee earned a solid above average rating of 3.75 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee Scale.
Visit the Superba website for more information or to try it out for yourself.

I saw their coffee on ROASTe.com and almost bought it, but I didn’t. I think it might be worth trying now.
.-= Jamie Ferguson´s last blog ..Starbucks VIA Colombia Medium Roast Review =-.
I’d add it to the list of must trys.
is that a minimalist website or what?
short and sweet.
i do wish they have more background on the
beans, etc. after all, they said they took
a year to put it all together.
you’d think they were inclined to share
some of the experience.
Yeah, hopefully they add more to it at some point, because the coffee is great.
This coffee is the best i’ve ever tried in all my travels. The only problem is holding onto it when friends are over. I would recommend buying in bulk.
The coffee tastes amazing…it’s really a unique blend. I guess it is the big secret behind the brand. They choose not to disclose where it comes from, Which is fine as long it’s quality remains consistently up there.
A great brew for any time of the day!
